The Early Intervention Specialist for Low Vision and Blindness provides specialized support services to infants and toddlers (ages 0-3) with visual impairments and their families. The specialist works collaboratively with families, caregivers, and other professionals to promote the child's development and maximize their functional vision and orientation and mobility skills in natural environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct developmental and functional vision assessments for infants and young children with diagnosed or suspected visual impairments.
Develop and implement individualized family service plans (IFSPs) in collaboration with families and multidisciplinary teams.
Provide direct early intervention services focused on visual stimulation, sensory development, communication, play, orientation and mobility, and family education.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or Early Childhood Education, Orientation and Mobility, Vision Rehabilitation, or a related field.
Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and/or Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) preferred.
Knowledge of child development, visual impairments, and early intervention best practices.
Experience working with infants/toddlers and families in home- or community-based settings preferred.
CPR/First Aid certification or obtaining within 6 months of hire.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Assist and/or complete initial intakes and provide follow-up referrals and/or interagency service coordination as needed.
