Thompson Candy Company company history timeline

1879

In 1879, he established our company determined to produce only quality chocolate items with "no artificial ingredients." With hard work and attention to detail, he succeeded.

Thompson opened his first candy store, the W.H. Thompson Company, here in Meriden, in 1879.

1921

Soon, Thompson had accounts from Maine to Washington D.C. In 1921, he closed the ice cream business, incorporated as W.H. Thompson Co. and concentrated on candy.

1934

After decades of hard work and passing the business to his son Charles, Thompson Candy Company was founded in 1934.

1960

Automated molding machines were first introduced to our business in the 1960’s, assisting with the production of chocolate marbles and eggs.

1967

In 1967, he sold the company to Knowlton White, a mechanical engineer from a well-known Meriden family.

1973

Thompson Candy Co. moved to its current site in 1973, allowing for year-round production of chocolate in a factory that was fully air conditioned.

In 1973, the company moved into an air-conditioned, 114,000-square-foot facility at 80 S. Vine St For the first time, Thompson operated year-round.

2021
