Ability to relate professionally with people, analytical abilities, compose letters/memorandums, coordinate events, motivate others, research information, time management, train employees.
Manage the day to day operations of the department. This includes:
Staff supervision including but not limited to training, competency assessment
Perform interviews and all hiring
Annual employee performance evaluations
Hold staff meetings and maintain minutes
Produce, monitor and maintain productivity, quality and TAT metrics
Prepare and revise SOP's and manuals
Oversee and perform histology work - grossing, embedding, cutting, staining, QA
Maintain all quality and service standards
Adhere to department budget
Implement, enforce and monitor all QC, QA, service, safety and compliance indicators and programs.
Participation in inventory control.
Documentation and timely completion of special projects.
Oversee the cleanliness of the laboratory, organized and neat.
Troubleshoot technical, equipment and computer related problems.
Validation of methodology and instrumentation.
Laboratory Inspection and preparation
Communicate problems or matters that need attention to the Histology Manager
<1% overall errors.
Achieve departmental goals and objectives.
Administrate the successful training of new hires.
Attendance at managerial meetings.
Adherence to schedules, policies, and procedures.
Demonstrate high ethical standards and personal integrity.
100% documentation compliance.
Work within department budget.
BS/BA Degree with minimum 1-3 years of histology supervisory experience. Must meet all state and local licensing requirements where the laboratory is located (NY State) and must meet all College of American Pathologists (CAP) and CLIA requirements. (HT) ASCP or similar nationally recognized certification preferred.
Must possess strong supervisory or managerial skills.
The ability to provide leadership and direction toward subordinates.
HT (ASCP) certification preferred.
Cooperative working relationships with peers and management.
Dependable, flexible and adaptable in all aspects of work, with strong interpersonal skills.
Exceptional analytical, technical, and organizational skills.
Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Superior time management and critical thinking skills.
Good working knowledge of computers; proficient in MS office applications preferred.
