In 1946, attorney Cliff Jones, and Los Angeles developer and Nevada gambling pioneer, Marion Hicks, invested $2 million in a 111,000 Sq. foot new complex across from the El Rancho from Guy McAfee and his associates.
In February of 1949, Thunderbird announced that she was planning on adding an additional 78 room structure to the property costing approximately $750,000.
One star to perform at the resort in 1949 was Nat King Cole.
By March 24, 1950, the Thunderbird had expanded five times from its original 76 rooms.
In May of 1950, the Civil Library Association reported that the Library Fund had a total of $45,000.
On November 15, 1950, she added a six unit bungalow and in December of that year, the Casino Bar opened.

Later in 1959, Jack Parker not only was part of The Fabulous Four Lads, he became part of the Thunderettes.
In July of 1960, the resort announced a new policy of a dinner show suitable for minors, with clothed chorus girls, and a late show for adults only.
In December of 1961, Flamingo introduced The Twist to the Strip and it was a hit.
In 1962, Everett McCarlie was listed as Casino Manager, Joe Wells as Executive Director, and Jack Walsh as General Manager.
In 1962, Thunderbird Theatre showcased Flower Drum Song starring Jack Soo/Romi Yamada/Arlene Fontana/Jon Lee/Josephine Chianese/Chao Li/Franklin Sui/George Minami/Linda Harris/Florence Ahn/Bob Kino/Garwood Van Orchestra; and South Pacific starring Joan O'Brien/Stephen Douglass/Benny Baker.
In March of 1963 Mimke Venturelli resigned as captain of Joe's Oyster Bar to become co-owner of the Coco Lounge.
In 1963, Thunderbird Theatre showcased the musical South Pacific starring Bill Meigs/Metropolitian opera star Cesare Siepi/Benny Baker/Alan Baxter/Sonja Habana/Stephen Douglas/Stephanie Hill/bill Meigs/Mokihana/Joan O'Brien/Johnny O'Neill/Ty Whitney/cast of 50/Nat Brandwynne Orchestra.
In June of 1964, Thunderbird introduced a new electronic slot machine (no handle pull) which was causing quite a stir at the resort.
On December 16, 1964, Thunderbird Lounge hosted Sheer Lingerie of the Hour.
In 1972, the Thunderbird was sold to the owners of Caesars Palace, Clifford and Stuart Perlman.
The El Rancho closed in 1992.
