Read codes and specifications to determine proper temperature and uses instruments provided to measure temperature. * Uses chipping hammer, wire brush, motorized grinder, and motorized wire brush at various times to clean welded areas. * Uses pneumatic drills and magnetic drills to drill and ream various sizes holes in poles as required by the drawing. * Wears protective equipment, including safety glasses, insulated welding gloves, welding cap, leather sleeves, and/or cape, and welding hood for protection against hot metal, arc rays, grinding debris, and other potentially. * Performs visual inspecting and identifies material discrepancies to assure welds have been completed satisfactorily in compliance with applicable drawings and specifications. Uses a weld gauge to measure weld size. * When called for by the drawings and specifications, must produce full-penetration welds as defined by American Welding Society code. Uses air-arc gouger to remove weld defects, and rewelds to meet specifications. * Uses overhead crane to load finished poles into bolsters for transportation out of the pole assembly area. * Welds other products in other areas, using either Flux-Cored Arc Welding or Gas Metal Arc Welding process. * Assist and instructs other welders and fitters when needed to overcome deficiencies in quality and/or productivity. * Additional duties as assigned Position Requirements: * High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred * Must have knowledge of basic shop mathematics, addition, subtraction, fractions, multiplication and decimals. * Proficiency in reading complex prints and specifications. * Must know how to properly use a weld gauge. * Read and write. Physical Requirement * Must be able to stand 100% of scheduled shift. Lifting, pushing, prying, and dragging heavy materials. * Must be capable of bending, stooping, crawling under or over and occasional climbing of stairs/ladders heights up to 6 or 7 feet. * Abnormal level of noise due to grinding, chipping, hammering requires hearing protection (ear plugs) be worn at all times. * Must possess adequate dexterity and stamina to sustain expected production effectively. * Must be able to work in fast-paced work environment * Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. * Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting and handling of materials. * Position requires manual dexterity, arm-hand steadiness and a safety-minded individual. * Must be able to work in an open environment exposed to extreme temperatures. Monitoring welding performance and efficiency are essential. HOURS: Monday - Thursday 5:00am - 3:00pm. Mandated overtime worked based on business need.
