What Does A Title Investigator Do At Columbia University

* A. When a complaint is filed against a student, the Title IX Investigator, working together with a second Title IX Investigator (Investigative Team) will initially assess the complaint which may lead to a prompt and thorough investigation which includes: preparing an investigative plan and timeline, identifying and interviewing witnesses, and gathering and securing relevant documentation.
* The incumbent will work closely with other University offices and community resources to achieve these objectives.
* The Investigator acts as an impartial party in the investigation and prepares a detailed report of the investigative findings.
* This position requires a significant amount of writing and analysis of documents, and an ability to investigate multiple complaints simultaneously in an efficient manner.

* Additional responsibilities include: ensuring a well-documented investigation process; analyzing information and working with the appropriate university offices in the course of investigations; maintaining accurate and thorough investigatory files and reports; providing ongoing updates; and continuously identifying and integrating best practices in the Title IX Investigation arena into the campus knowledge base and practice.
* The Title IX Investigator will assist, as needed, with campus training, reporting, campus programming and outreach, and other duties as assigned.

* Within the Student Conduct and Community Standards Office, the Title IX Investigator works closely with a team including other Title IX Investigators, Case Managers, adjudicators, and an operations team.
* Additionally, the Title IX Investigator works closely with a variety of University and community resources including but not limited to the Office of the General Counsel, Title IX Coordinator, Deans of Students Offices, and Sexual Violence Response to ensure a thorough investigative process and compliance with applicable equal opportunity and nondiscrimination legislation.

What Does A Title Investigator Do At Western Washington University

* Title IX Complaint Investigations
* Collaborates and consults with the Vice Provost/Title IX Coordinator to review and investigate Title IX complaints while ensuring a prompt, thorough, and equitable response to reports and incidents.
* Provides periodic, timely updates regarding status of complaints received to the Vice Provost/Title IX Coordinator to identify and address any patterns or systemic problems and to ensure that Title IX policies are communicated to university stakeholders and constituencies.
* Resolves informally allegations that do not rise to the level of Title IX violations.
* Maintains a high level of confidentiality.
* Ensures a well-documented Title IX investigative process.
* Continuously identifies and integrates best practices in Title IX investigations.
* Discrimination and Harassment Complaint Investigations
* Investigates illegal discrimination and harassment, including but not limited to, reports of sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, sexual violence (sexual assault, dating and domestic violence and stalking), and gender based discrimination.
* Acts as a neutral third party throughout all aspects of the investigation process and ensures a well-documented, prompt, fair, and impartial process for all parties.
* Resolves informally allegations that do not rise to the level of discrimination or harassment violations.
* Maintains a high level of confidentiality.
* Continuously identifies and integrates best practices in investigations.
* Training
* Provides Title IX training and outreach to campus community.
* Investigatory Reports
* Composes comprehensive written investigative reports that clearly identify the issues investigated, summarizes the evidence found, including information gathered from interviews conducted during the investigatory process, analyzes the matter within a legal framework, applies relevant laws, policies and procedures and makes findings and recommendations.
* Database Management and Reporting
* Assists in maintaining database related to reports of Title IX sexual misconduct including sexual harassment, sexual violence, and gender-based discrimination and harassment.
* Develops and creates reports assessing trends and identifying areas of concern in the campus climate.
* Assists in Response to Civil Rights Charges and other Requests for Information
* Assists in coordinating responses and/or position statements for civil rights charges filed externally, including, but not limited, charges filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Washington State Human Rights Commission, and the Office for Civil Rights.
* Other Duties as Assigned
* Participates in ongoing training on Title IX and other federal laws and regulations and stays current with recent changes/guidance; investigative techniques, including trauma-informed interviewing and approaches; and cultural sensitivity.
* Assists in sexual violence climate survey development, distribution, analysis, report writing, and follow-up
