The Nova Scotia Drama League had been created in 1951 by an act of provincial legislature and had a long and proud tradition of promoting and creating theatre and theatre artists in Nova Scotia.
1990 TNS founded in the USA to provide services to the POS industry
The Nova Scotia Professional Theatre Alliance had been promoting and developing programs beneficial to Nova Scotia’s vibrant professional theatre community since 1991.
The popular Liverpool International Theatre Festival, founded in 1992 has become an established biennial event featuring theatre from around the world and across Nova Scotia.
1996 International offices launched in the UK, Canada & Ireland & TNS' Financial Services Division launched

In 2000 the Nova Scotia Professional Theatre Alliance (NSPTA) held a celebration evening at Neptune to mark World Theatre Day and presented awards to extra-ordinary volunteers from each theatre.
2001 Management, in conjunction with GTCR Golder Rauner LLC, bought back TNS from PSINet
Theatre Nova Scotia was formed in 2001 as a result of a merger between the Nova Scotia Drama League and the Nova Scotia Professional Theatre Alliance.
2002 Office opened up in Italy
2002 marked the first year of the Robert Merritt Awards, named for the late beloved Dalhousie Theatre professor, Robert Merritt.
2006 Offices opened in India, Thailand and South Korea.
2008 Offices opened in Hong Kong and Singapore
For years the Nova Scotia High School Drama Festival was governed by the board of directors of the Educational Drama Association of Nova Scotia (EDANS). Midway through 2008 EDANS handed over governance of the Festival to the board of directors of Theatre Nova Scotia and its executive director.
2013 Office opened in Taiwan.
2017 Offices opened in Malaysia and Philippines
