Structural Engineer
Terra Nova Technologies (TNT), a subsidiary of Cementation, based in San Diego, designs, supplies, delivers, and installs material handling systems for mining and mineral processing, coal, aggregate, and cement clients throughout the world. Our experience includes delivery of mobile stacking systems, crushing plants, and conveyor projects (stockpile, overland, underground, in-pit, and In-plant) in 15 countries on 6 continents. We currently hold about 80% of the world market in the manufacture and installation of multiple-lift heap leach stacking systems.
TNT currently has an exciting opportunity for a Structural Engineering position in our San Diego, and our Boise ID, location and reporting to the Engineering Manager in San Diego. This role has the overall responsibility for providing Structural Engineering Services on a variety of material handling projects. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Functional Responsibilities
Responsible for the design and specification of structural equipment required for the support of underground and aboveground mining, mineral processing, materials handling, and other heavy industrial applications.
Reviewing client specifications, design criteria, and documents
Develop project-specific structural specifications and design criteria
Develop and provide recommendations for complex structural designs
Perform detailed structural calculations using Bentley RAM Software
Familiar with other structural software (Bentley Staad Pro, Autodesk Robot, SAP 2000) an asset
Responsible for calculation reports
Preparation of conveyor/equipment steel and concrete MTOs
Review project structural designs and drafting development for quality and accuracy
Work closely with designers to create and review engineering drawings
Monitor project deliverables, schedules, progress reports for structural items
Working alongside and directly with other Structural, Mechanical and Electrical engineers as part of a project team
Assist in feasibility studies and estimates
Supervise and mentor junior level engineers
Other duties as assigned
Health & Safety
Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Cementation and TNT
Incorporate Health and Safety considerations in all functions and daily activities of the position
Monitor work environment for health and safety hazards or infractions and reports the same to Health and Safety Department
Keep work area clean and free of clutter
Use proper equipment for the job, i.e. stepladder vs. chair
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
10+ years of experience with material handling, structural design experience in mining/heavy industry
Registered as a professional engineer
Understanding structural codes and standards required
Knowledge of US structural codes and standards, including ASCE-7 required
Understanding international structural codes and standards is an asset
Certificate(s), License(s), Registration(s)
Professional Engineer with (PE) designation preferred
PMP designation or accreditation preferred
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
Ability to travel/site visits (short-term basis) required
Some Supervision of design and drafting personnel on various projects
Strategic leadership skills, including the ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to implement strategic initiatives that positively impact the operations' business plans, operating profits, practices, policies, and procedures

Maintain accurate records of fleet operations, maintenance history, fuel usage, vehicle assignments, and service schedules.
Coordinate with vendors, mechanics, and rental providers; negotiate pricing and service levels to control costs and improve performance.
Track vehicle registrations, insurance, and compliance with DOT and ADOT regulations.
Use fleet management and telematics platforms (e.g., Samsara, Fleetio, Geotab) to monitor driver performance, safety behavior, asset utilization, and fuel efficiency.
Monitor fleet costs and identify opportunities for measurable cost reduction or efficiency improvement.
Support the procurement and disposal of vehicles and equipment in line with company needs, budgets, and lifecycle strategy.
Ensure driver safety, training, and compliance with company and regulatory policies; partner with leadership to reduce liability and improve safety culture.
Provide regular reports on fleet performance, uptime, costs, and utilization to management; develop system dashboards that increase visibility into true operating costs.
Respond promptly to equipment issues while continuously working to shift the fleet from reactive to proactive operations.
Ad hoc projects and responsibilities as needed for business and daily operations.
Qualifications:
3-5 years of experience in fleet management, equipment maintenance coordination, or similar role (construction industry preferred).
Strong understanding of preventative maintenance programs, DOT compliance, and fleet/telematics software systems.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, especially in building and improving systems.
High level of decision quality, responsibility, and integrity when dealing with team members, vendors, and clients.
Ability to manage vendor relationships and negotiate effectively.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and fleet management software (e.g., Fleetio, Geotab, or equivalent).
Valid driver's license (CDL preferred).

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: * Staff and operate Company support aircraft transporting parts, mechanics, pilots, administrative/company personnel, and CALFIRE personnel as required in support of the CALFIRE aviation program. All flights are conducted under FAR Part 135 and Part 91 rules. * Act in a similar capacity as a "Chief Pilot" but is not part of management. * If qualified under program Part 135 certificate: develop, execute, and manage the pilot training program to include initial, upgrade, and recurrent training. * Assign company pilots as needed to the monthly flight schedule to meet CALFIRE staffing requirements. * Ensure compliance with aviation regulations, safety protocols, and company policies. * Provide leadership and guidance to company pilots; monitor performance, conduct training and evaluations to maintain high standards of competence and professionalism. * Ensure all flights are conducted safely, in accordance with relevant aviation regulations and guidelines. * Act as a point of contact between the flight department and various stakeholders, such as M1 Management, CALFIRE AMU, and Lead Mechanics. * Strive for continuous improvement in flight operations; analyze data, identify areas for enhancement, and implement best practices to stay abreast of advancement and emerging trends Qualifications and Experience: * High school diploma or equivalent * Meet the requirements for Support Pilot Multi-Engine Jet Pilot and Turboprop Single Engine Pilot * Possess a valid and current FAA Flight Instructor Certificate with the following rating: o FAA Multi-Engine Airplane Transport Pilot Certificate or ability to obtain post hire. * Five years performing pilot duties as a designated Maintenance Support Pilot in support of CAL FIRE operations. * First Class Medical Certificate with EKG endorsement if over forty (40) years of age.
