Overview: An Assistant Teacher (AT) in a LE3 Academy room supports the Teachers and the Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. The AT must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents, the AT observes and documents childrens interests and progress, and relays that information back to parents and staff. AT's are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on childrens interests and needs under the direction of the Teacher and the Director.
Qualifications: the lead teacher must have the following education, experience, and certification requirements:
High School Diploma or GED, and significant college credit in early childhood education or related field of study. CDA or 6 hours of ECE credit is preferred.
Minimum of 1-2 years of professional childcare experience.
Ability to work well with others.
Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
An understanding of child development.
Must clear a full background check and must pass a health screening.

Working Conditions: Most buildings cover the following working conditions:
Exposures encountered: many LE3 programs have varying noise levels depending on the day, time of year, and activity. Outside of noise level, most sense exposures are common. There are times in which lessons/crafts require extra hands and supervision due to being messy
Essential physical requirements are not limited to but include walking, running, climbing stairs and playground structures, squatting/sitting on the floor, and standing for a minimum of five hours.
Regularly uses fingers to feel, type, and assist using fine motor skills to tie shoes, zip coats, etc.

Make sure all shifts of staff entering the room are aware of daily happenings going on in the room.
Create a class routine/schedule for children to follow.
Effectively utilize 30 minutes of paid daily planning time.
Keep daily attendance records.
Promote guidelines regarding curriculum found in Developmentally Appropriate practices.
Provide at least 10 minutes of outdoor time to all children daily.
Set examples for appropriate course of discipline.
Complete daily report board about individual child's activities for parents.
Keep daily logs on each child for evaluations and parent/teacher conferences.
Daily cleaning and organization of your room, which includes but not limited to disinfecting toys, cots, furniture, and bathrooms.
Work cooperatively with your team teachers and complete weekly lesson plans.
Report any problems with children, including suspected abuse or maltreatment immediately to the Director.
Establish and maintain daily communication with each child' s parents or caregiver.
Attend and participate in 30 hours of training required every (2) two years of employment.

Your Impact as a Teacher Assistant
The Teacher Assistant supports the delivery of instruction and ensures fulfillment of IEP mandates by assisting with lesson plans, data collection, and classroom activities. They help with implementing established behavior plans, home-school communication, and have the ability to assume teacher responsibilities as needed.
Assist in instruction and fulfillment of IEP mandates
Implement established behavior plan(s)
Ability to assume teacher responsibilities
Assist teacher to implement and monitor individual lesson plans, data collection and charting systems
Assist in conducting classroom activities that enhance opportunity to develop skills in areas of need
Assist with routine classroom functions
Assist with home-school communication
Assist with all required paperwork to be completed
Ability to travel to satellite locations upon request

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent
One year of experience working in a classroom/educational setting
One year of experience working with children
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: New York State Teaching Assistant Certificate or New York State Teaching Certificate (if you do not currently posses the certificate, you must obtain it within six months of hire)
