GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
As a professional educator in a Catholic school, the Teacher will:

participate in the annual performance review
maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding school personnel, students and general school matters

Elementary Program Description
At The Frances Xavier Warde School (FXW), our kindergarten to second grade program is focused on helping young students to develop their academic, social, and emotional skills through a comprehensive curriculum approach. During these grades, we work particularly to build a strong foundation across the core content areas of reading, writing, and math. Most importantly, our teaching focuses on creating child-centered, safe, joyful classrooms that inspire lifelong learners. There are two teachers in each kindergarten to second grade classroom to fulfill these goals while differentiating instruction in a way that is developmentally responsive to meet the needs of all learners.
Primary Function
Operating in this two-teacher model, the kindergarten to second grade teacher is responsible for educating the whole child by providing a quality learning experience to all children in one's classroom. Each teacher assumes full and shared responsibility for all aspects of the classroom. The teacher responds to the needs of each individual child by developing and implementing lessons in all subject areas. The classroom teacher fosters and maintains relationships with students and families, working as partners in each child's educational experience.
Qualifications and Requirements
A bachelor's or master's degree in education.
A valid, issued State of Illinois teaching certificate is preferred.
A master's degree in a curriculum area is preferred.

TITLE: ASSOCIATE, SPECIAL EDUCATION
REPORTS TO: Building administrator and certified staff member(s)
JOB GOAL: To provide instructional, behavioral and/or physical assistance to a special needs
student(s), under the supervision of a certified staff member(s), which will provide a learning
environment that will allow students with special needs an opportunity to receive a free, appropriate,
public education.
CONDITIONS Nine month position with salary and working conditions in compliance
OF EMPLOYMENT: with the Agreement between the Woodstock School Related Personnel,
Local 1642, IFT/AFT, and the Woodstock CUSD #200 Board of Education.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
INSTRUCTIONAL AND BEHAVIORAL NEEDS RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Under the supervision of the special education certified staff member, works with individual
students or small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the certified staff.
2. Facilitates the student's efforts to meet the specific demands of assigned academic and
social/emotional tasks. This might include:
a. providing additional drill and practice on skills previously taught (e.g. - listening to student
read or recite, providing test drills, etc.);
b. providing specified cues and prompts during tasks;
c. delivering specified consequences for targeted behavior(s); and
d. promoting situations that encourage successful academic and social interactions with others
(e.g. - encouraging peer interaction with student).
3. Assists the certified staff member in devising special strategies for reinforcing materials or skills
based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
4. Monitors and implements behavior intervention plan as directed by certified staff member(s).
5. Exhibits knowledge of student's IEP goals and works with certified staff member towards the
achievement of those goals.
6. Assists the certified staff members with modifying general education materials.
PHYSICAL AND ADAPTIVE NEEDS RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides necessary assistance to assigned student(s) in various functional daily living tasks (e.g. -
removing outerwear, using the lavatory, moving from room to room, eating). This might also
involve the performance of simple tasks that could prove difficult or impossible for a student, given
his/her disability (e.g. - carrying lunch tray or books, sharpening a pencil).
2. Provide physical assistance to special needs students. Typical duties that may vary according to
school or situation include:
a. Transporting to classes
b. Assisting students who are not physically independent (lunchroom, washroom, lockers,
dressing for P.E., dressing for swimming class)
c. Assisting with personal hygiene (may include toileting assistance or diapering)
d. Setting up adaptive equipment, and caring for and maintaining that equipment
e. Assisting students to and from buses (may include assisting students on and off bus)
f. Assisting students during emergency situations, drills and field trips
g. Recording seizures and behaviors
h. Assisting students with feeding skills as directed by certified staff member

GENERAL RESPONSIBILTIES:
1. Participates as member of the IEP (Individual Education Plan) Team through participation in
meetings; communication to the Team regarding specific concerns, changes and problem areas;
becoming familiar with the IEP goals set for the student to achieve; and assisting in carrying out
those IEP goals as directed by the certified staff member.
2. Supervises the student(s) to provide for safety and security when outside of the classroom and direct
certified staff supervision (e.g. - in lavatory, on trips to the nurse, office, etc.)
3. Communicates, in written or oral form, with staff, parents (as directed by certified staff), support
services and students.
4. Works collaboratively with the team. Maintains anecdotal notes and progress reports as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Signs in and out when arriving and leaving any Head Start site.
Timely daily arrival to work.
Greets children and parents as well as co-workers with a warm, positive, and respectful.
Works with parents and caregivers, providing information and supportive services as needed. This includes conducting a Family Assessment with each enrolled family and negotiating/implementing an Individualized Family Partnership Agreement with them, as well as quarterly meetings with those families who have selected to receive ongoing services. This includes completing required contacts and paperwork for the services provided to each assigned family.
Makes appropriate referrals for families and children and follows up on referrals to determine if services were received and needs were met.
Interview interested families during enrollment for completion of application and enrollment process by utilizing application checklist.
Provide completed application to the Site Manager for review and approval.
Obtain income documentation to verify eligibility.
Provide actual income documentations, i.e. W2, 1040, RASP, Child support, etc. to ERSEA Coordinator.
Obtain hard copies of IEP's and IFSP's during enrollment.
Hard copies of IEP's and IFSP's will be provided to Special Services Coordinator in 24 hours.

aintain files in a locked file cabinet.
Send via U.S. Mail official notification to families to inform them of selection for enrollment.
Enter reasons and causes of absences into ChildPlus daily.
Per the Attendance Document Procedures, provides follow-up on children with attendance issues by making contact with families within the hour of the absence.
Works closely with teaching staff to coordinate home visits (when agreed upon by both parties), share pertinent information, collaborate on family concerns, and provide united support to families.
Attends staff meetings, training sessions, Family Committee Meetings and Community Service Provider Meetings as recommended by the Family Resource Development Coordinator.
Provides crisis intervention services to Head Start families within the scope of the agency's resources.
Distributes information regarding adult education, employment, male involvement, and family involvement to Head Start families.
Distributes health education information to classroom staff and parents and forwards incoming health-related records and information to the site's Data Clerk.
Offers updates regarding local social service and health service-related resources for families.
Helps identify medical and dental issues and makes referrals to health agencies.
Assists with ongoing health screenings held at each Site or in the community as arranged by the Health Services Staff.
Submits records of children's illnesses and health needs as identified in the assigned classrooms and assures that proper follow-up action is taken in consultation with the parent and/or a health professional.
Works with Data Clerk to maintain records required in the children's site files.
Provides assistance and support in health emergencies at the site and provides follow-up, as appropriate.
Consults with staff on child abuse and neglect issues and fulfills mandated reporter duties per State of Illinois laws.
Maintains confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Employee will comply with the policies and procedures for bus monitoring. Bus monitoring services will consist of (but not limited to) securing all children in seatbelts, taking attendance, securing authorized signatures when releasing the child from the bus. Employee will also maintain control and ensure the safety of the children on the bus at all times.
Performs other duties as assigned, with consideration given to the priority of
direct services to families.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Educational Standards: A credential or certification in social work, human services, family services, counseling or a related field. Desired Educational standards: Bachelor's Degree in social services or related field.
Ability to communicate and work well with parents, children, staff, and community agency personnel
Ability to pass a medical examination identifying freedom from communicable disease
Ability to lift at least 40 pounds
At least 21 years of age
