POSITION OVERVIEW
This position is for a Teacher's Assistant full-time position (35h a week) in our Early Childhood Education Center also known as the Preschool/Maternelle (Grade PK2-PK4), for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year.
Teacher's Assistant is responsible for assisting the Preschool French and English Teachers in managing and caring for the well-being of students in the classroom, in the bathroom and on the playground within the context of implementing a program of activities that promote the academic, social, emotional, and physical development of each child enrolled in the program.
Teacher's Assistant reports to their classroom teacher(s) and above them to the Assistant Principal and Principal of the Maternelle. If and when acting as Extended Care monitor for after school care, vacation camps, or childcare, reporting is to the Extended Care Supervisor.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist French and/or English Teacher(s) and collaborate closely with them in implementing the daily program of activities based on best practices and researched principles of child development and in accordance with the program's curriculum, social-emotional learning program (Positive Discipline) and school culture.
Actively supervise students during class time, bathroom time (including but not limited to toileting and diaper changing), lunch time, transition times and during recess times. Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of autonomy, self-esteem, and self-discipline.
Assisting with diaper changes and toilet training as needed.
Observe each child daily to assess skills, interests, and needs and use this information to facilitate learning and growth.
Maintain a well-organized, safe and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children (including maintaining classroom cleanliness and keeping materials clean, neat, and arranged)
Intervene with vigilance and respect to help any child in need, prevent accident or injury to the degree possible, and in any situation requiring assistance
Establish a positive relationship with each child's family.
Perform other duties as required or assigned, including acting as extended care staff before or after school, vacation camps, and child care when requested.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Proficient in the language of teaching (French and English)
Experience working with young children (age 2-5 years old)
Bachelor's Degree
Certified in early childhood education or currently working towards the completion of one: at least 6 Early Childhood Education Units (12 would be a plus)
CPR & First Aid certified or obtain certification upon hire
Be mentally and physically capable of caring for a group of children alone in a classroom.
Have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations of their abilities
Able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 70lbs
Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences.
Have the ability to collaborate and work positively in a professional setting with multiple colleagues in a teaching team - both in and out of the classroom.
Must be authorized to work in the United States
Salary range for this position: $60,212- $103,247 depending upon experience and qualifications.
