GENERAL PURPOSE
Preschool teacher performs a variety of duties related to conducting and managing a preschool class of 15 - 20 students between the ages of 3 and 5.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Preschool teacher works under the direct supervision of the Washington City Community Center Preschool Director.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Preschool teachers provide supervision as directed to preschool assistants and parent volunteers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The preschool teacher is responsible for presenting and implementing the preschool curriculum as outlined by the preschool director. He/she is responsible for the day-to-day activities and schedule of the class and for providing a fun loving and effective learning environment for the students. The preschool teacher also creates and presents lesson plans, games and activities in conjunction with the preschool curriculum that supports and implements the academic goals of the preschool program. The preschool teacher is also required to communicate effectively with students and parents as well as co-workers regarding preschool activities, programs, and student behavior issues that may arise. It is the responsibility of the head teacher to lead circle time, academic time, and class activities at tables as well as to direct the assistant teacher. The head teacher is responsible for classroom management, schedule management, dismissal and classroom clean up for his/her assigned class.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High School Graduate
2 year experience directly related to early childhood education, preschool, daycare or other related fields.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of children's safety including CPR and First Aid certification. Must be familiar with methods, techniques and philosophies of operating a preschool class. Position requires the ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, teachers, assistants, volunteers, parents, and the public. Position also requires an ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Teachers should be able to divert, direct and motivate students while creating and supporting an effective learning environment.
Work Environment:
Performance in a typical preschool setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks require a variety of physical activities, lifting, reaching and carrying up to 40 pounds. Communicating, seeing, hearing, and talking is essential to job effectiveness.

Support the Lead teacher in leading children in weekly curriculum and lesson plan implementation and all daily activities, including indoor/outdoor play time, large and small group activities, and snack and mealtimes.

Administer Ages and Stages Screeners on an ongoing basis to track individual child growth and development and share information with each child's family. Teachers will track each child's growth through observations, portfolio documentation, developmental checklist, and assessment data.
Participate in parent teacher conference with parents whenever issues involving a child's behavior at the center need to be addressed, or when such a meeting is requested by the parents.
Conduct daily environmental safety checklists in the indoor classroom environment and outdoor environment to ensure adequate health and safety for the children in care. Report any items that need repaired or attention to the Director.
Ensure that the classroom environment is healthy, safe, clean, and engaging for children in care.
Complete daily logs, communicate with families through the family engagement app by sending progress notes and information to the child's families while in care each day. Complete required documentation and daily activity logs for all children in care.
Track attendance, meals and snacks for each child and required documentation for the CACFP food program.
Attend required annual training and professional development opportunities provided by Stepping Stones Child Care.
Recordkeeping and Reporting:
Report critical incident(s) immediately to Regional Director.
Collects data necessary to meet funding requirements and statistical reports.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Early childhood care and education experience with children ages birth to twelve.
Comply with local, state, and federal laws governing childcare.

Obtain required training upon hire per Utah Child Care Licensing: Preservice training that consists of 2.5 hours of training before assuming assistant director duties.
Complete 20 Hours of annual training or at least 1-1/2 hours of childcare training including Utah Child Care Licensing topics, career ladder courses on: child development, ages and stages administration, director's toolbox endorsement, working with families, culturally and linguistically appropriate practices to meet the developmental needs of children and understanding appropriate practices to engage with families.
Complete and maintain current CPR/First Aid and Food Handlers Permit certifications.
