HOURS

ABSENCES

CLASSROOM/CURRICULUM RESPONSIBILITIES
● Teachers must follow best practices as outlined in the IB supporting documents and LJA policies
and procedures.
● Teachers should collaborate with other teachers to strengthen the transdisciplinary elements
within the units of inquiry.
● Teachers should implement constructivist learning experiences that are planned with universal
design thinking in mind.
● Teachers are responsible for implementing accommodations as outlined in student support plans.
● Teachers should plan grade level excursions and participate in programs supporting, enriching,
and reinforcing the units of inquiry.

STUDENT ASSESSMENT
● Teachers should maintain complete and accurate sets of student records (electronic or hardcopy)
based on learning objectives
● Conferences are held twice a year with parents (one is teacher led and the other is student led) and
as needed/requested by parents.
● Report cards with written comments are a summary of learning and should be prepared twice a
year, based on report card agreements.
● Teachers should regularly communicate student progress via the assessment folder.
● Teachers must communicate and document information about students (i.e. lack of progress,
changes in and concerns about student achievement and/or behavior) to the parents, dean of
students, and/or Counselor.
SCHOOL MEETINGS
Attendance is required at the following meetings. There are always meetings on Wednesdays and some
Mondays. Permission to be excused must be secured from the divisional head or dean who is facilitating
the meeting via the admin assistant.

● Collaboration Meetings with the dean of academics - weekly, embedded in school day

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
● Primary Teachers are expected to participate in professional learning at the discretion of the Dean
of Academics or the teacher's supervisor. Pre-approved professional learning may include (IB
training, learning when there is a launch of a new program or practice, CPR/First Aid).
● Teachers are expected to attend and actively participate in Professional Development Days.
● PK and JK Teachers are expected to take 16 hours of Health and Safety training annually to fulfill
DHS staffing requirements.
COMMUNICATION
● Internal communication: Voicemail, mailbox and email should be checked daily in order to
ensure intra-school communication. On a weekly basis, any weekly or monthly memos sent
out by staff and administration should be read (i.e. Faculty Friday Update)
● Communicate with parents: Teachers should communicate directly with parents. Phone calls
are the encouraged form of communication for discussion around sensitive topics.
Administrators are available for consultation around sensitive topics.
● Communicate activities: All unit-related field trips need to be approved by the dean of
academics. All other field trips must be approved by the Dean of Experiential Education. The
Dean of Academics and admin assistant must be made aware of any performance/activities
during and after school that involves an outside speaker or parent attendance.
● Parent Square- PK-5 teachers must communicate at minimum every other week with
information about what learning is taking place at school. Photos and upcoming events that
are Grade level specific should be uploaded regularly.
OTHER
● Teachers should provide extra assistance to students as needed.
● The primary behavior procedures should be followed and the appropriate referral forms must
be filled. Behavior concerns should be communicated to parents, dean of students and
counselor as needed.
● Teachers should report accidents as appropriate to the school nurse.
● Teachers share in the supervision of duties of students as assigned (e.g. Recess, lunch, and
arrivals/dismissal). Rainy day recess coverage and lunch while in classrooms is the
responsibility of the grade level team of teachers, assistants, and recess duty supervisors.
● When supervising the playground, teachers should be active and alert; standing with
co-workers or looking at phones is unacceptable.
● Some roles require attendance of camp (such as Big Island Trip in Grade 4).
TEACHER EVALUATION
● Observations are conducted by the head and/or the deans. Teachers are expected to actively
participate through reflections.
● Teachers are expected to complete a professional growth process, which includes goal
writing, observation reflections, and self-assessing on performance rubric with the head or
one of the deans at the start of the year as well as meet for mid and end of year reflections.
EXTRA RESPONSIBILITIES
● Attendance and participation is required at each of the following school events: parent nights, the
fifth grade exhibition, winter concerts, family fun night, and artsfest.
● Teachers must assist in one open house or one admission screening held on Saturdays.

PRIMARY DIVISION EVENTS (PK-5)
New Family Welcome: Spearheaded by the PFA, this social is geared to all new incoming families,
welcoming them to the school and giving them a chance to meet and mingle with current families. Each
campus hosts its Bienvenue au Jardin event. Attendance by faculty optional.
Meet the Teacher Day (K-5): To orient families to the campus and students to their new classrooms, an
open house is held before the first full day of school. Students are invited to bring in their supplies and
meet their teachers. Parents have the opportunity to share any information essential for the onset of
school, eliminating a hectic morning on the first day.
Parent Orientation Conferences: PK/JK/Kindergarten families participate in a Parent-Child
introductory conference with the child's homeroom teacher the week prior to the beginning of school.
Conference days are not considered as teacher work days and teachers are provided a stipend for an
additional prep day as needed.
Parent Nights: Held in September as noted on the school calendar. Teachers and specialists present their
curriculum and plans for the year. All teachers (both part-time and full-time) are required to attend.
Winter Concerts: Several programs are held during the two weeks prior to winter vacation. Families and
friends are welcome. Teachers attend and supervise rehearsals.
Open Houses: To introduce and promote our school, Open Houses are held on Saturday mornings in

Admissions Testing: Faculty may be required to attend one admissions testing day per year to support in

Compensation
The Honolulu Museum of Art is committed to practicing salary transparency. The pay for this position is $25.00 per hour. Please note that pay range information is a general guideline only.
