The Special Education Coordinator is passionate about supporting the students who are at-risk for academic underperformance due to emotional and/or physical challenges so that they can succeed in the school's rigorous academic program. The Special Education Coordinator holds primary responsibility for providing academic, emotional, and physical services for students who require additional support to thrive within the school's core academic program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure that all students receive the educational services that they need to succeed;
Identify incoming students' special education needs as indicated by family questionnaire responses;
Review the results of intake assessments of new students to identify special education needs;
Schedule and providing pull-out services as needed;
Schedule, coordinate, and chair team and pre-referral meetings;
Conduct academic testing as part of the evaluation process;
Coordinate and conducting classroom observations and testing (i.e. psychological) as needed;
Ensure that all regular education teachers know and understand all classroom accommodations required by IEPs;
Deliver one-on-one, small group, and whole class instruction as appropriate;
Maintain student records regarding special education issues and preparing reports for regulatory agencies;
Ensure compliance with all City, State, and Federal special education law and regulations;
Contribute to the design of curriculum materials;
Design and administer rigorous, standards-based assessments and using assessment data to refine curriculum and instruction;
Help to create a culture of order, structure, humanity, and academic rigor in the classroom and school as a whole; and
Collaborate with other teachers, other school staff, and administrators to ensure that all our students climb the mountain to high school and college.

Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree is preferred.

Job Description
Uncommon Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) teachers are passionate about literature and building an engaging classroom culture. Our teachers develop subject mastery and have a keen sense of the socio-emotional changes middle schoolers experience. At the heart of all ELA classes is an emphasis on writing and discourse designed to give students the tools to be confident in the power of their own voice. You do not need to be certified to be hired; however, if hired you will need to pass state teacher certification tests to meet the MA state requirements.
All Commonwealth charter teachers must either have an appropriate MA educator's license or pass required the MTEL(s) including the Communications and Literacy MTEL , Subject Specific MTEL, and the MTEL SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) Endorsement within first year of employment. All core academic teachers* assigned to teach English learners are required to earn the SEI endorsement. Any teacher without a SEI endorsement has one year from date of assignment to teach ELs, to earn the MTEL SEI endorsement.

Responsibilities
* Work with a diverse group of students from varying developmental, cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
* Lead small group instruction as you implement the SESI academic rotational model.
* Partner with the teacher in providing customized behavior and academic support and conducting formal and informal assessments.
* Reinforce students' learning of teacher-introduced materials and skills by assigning relevant tasks, using data to determine appropriate materials, and completing one-on-one tutorials.
* Assist the teacher with large group activities, grading work, guiding independent study or enrichment activities, and providing accommodations and modifications as necessary.
* Utilize behavior support and intervention strategies.
* Implement de-escalation techniques, crisis management, and physical restraint if necessary to maintain the safety of students and staff.
* Support the creation and implementation of daily plans.
* Support, document, and track student growth and progress toward academic, social, and emotional goals.
* Supervise students and ensure they are always monitored, including to and from appropriate school locations.
* Work in collaboration with other teachers, assistant teachers, and related service providers to address students' needs.
Qualifications
* High school diploma required; college experience or bachelor's degree highly preferred.
* Experience working with students with special needs in an educational setting preferred.
Posted Salary Range
USD $18.00 - USD $21.00 /Hr.
Physical Requirements
* Ability to run short distances and move swiftly in response to student needs, including bending, kneeling, and crouching.
* Ability to lift and assist students with mobility challenges, often requiring the handling of up to 50 pounds or more.
* Skill in managing fine motor tasks, such as helping students with writing, manipulating small objects, or using adaptive devices.
* Ability to operate a computer or tablet for up to 8 hours daily.
* Capacity to notice and respond to non-verbal cues from students
* Capacity to remain calm and composed during physically and emotional demanding situations, ensuring student safety and well-being
