Uses tools and dies to build fixtures; creates dies as required to construct new fixtures.
Repairs dies, molds, and tools when needed; disassembles molds, jigs, tools, and fixtures, then reassembles when repaired.
Reads and understands blueprints and complicated schematics as required to create and build new fixtures, tools, and machine parts.
Uses computer-aided design (CAD) software to create designs and/or turn designs into blueprints.
Inspects completed tools and dies for signs of imperfection or damage that may affect functionality.

Build tool and dies from part prints, sketches, reference parts, or instructions.
Operate tool room machinery in a safe manner during the build process.
Perform tool and die repairs on progressive dies, manually operated dies, and tooling.
Diagnose and trouble shoot dies in the bench and make corrections.
Work from T.C.O. program reports and last piece references to make corrections as required to produce quality parts.
Support try out and make ready to run production after die steel or tool installations.
Support press room operations by servicing die sets, trouble shoot dies and make corrections when possible with die in the press, and through using SPC data to determine dimensional integrity for die adjustments and document.
Interface with both internal and external customers, participate on problem solving teams in production, and handle customer and supplier concerns.
Support SPECS, TQM, MOS, and Safety programs. Also responsible for practicing good housekeeping standards.
Authorized to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities relating to product, process, and quality system.
Authorized to support and assist Tool & Die Apprentices in day to day operations.
Performs other essential functions as assigned.

Job Function:
• Demonstrated ability to read prints and inspect dimensions using precision gages.
• Able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

Responsibilities:
Troubleshooting - determining causes of operating errors and deciding the resolution
Verify dimensions, alignments and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators
Set up and operate lathes, milling machines and grinders
Lift, position and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, and angle plates
Fit and assemble parts to make repairs
Maintain die and molds
Read blueprints and technical drawings
Must Haves (i.e. Basic Qualifications):
State approved apprentice certificate and required documentation to support 8 years or 16,000 hours working as a tool & die maker
Documented work history
Ability to work any shift and/or shift pattern, including weekends
