Operates tool room machinery to finish precision details used to repair and maintain dies. Assists in troubleshooting die issues at the press to maintain quality and production. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (% of Time)
Select, dress, set up, and use grinding wheels for surface grinding, and form grinding. Hand grind, polish and finish die components. (30%)
Perform die maintenance such as cleaning, inspection, sharpening, and preventive maintenance. Die repair, reconstruction and restoration of damaged dies as needed. (30%)
Machines parts by using lathe, mill, drill press, and other typical shop equipment. (20%)

This job is responsible for repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining casting and trim dies to original specifications, including disassembly, reassembly, welding, troubleshooting tooling issues, and performing precision work such as polishing, grinding, and rebuilding die components.What's a Typical Day Like?
Principal Responsibilities: Repair, rebuild, and maintain casting and trim dies in a manner consistent with the original specifications, operating all machines and equipment associated with this process.
Receive instructions and information from Team Leader and/or Supervisor.
Transport, clean, disassemble, repair, and reassemble casting and trim dies, using lift trucks, die cleaning equipment, and cranes as necessary.
Build and replace segments, cores, details, and parts from blue prints, using required tools or equipment.
Draw polish or grind die cavity surfaces using required tools or equipment.
Make repairs, remove stuck castings, correct dimensional problems, change cores and trim punches while casting and trim dies are mounted on machines.
Perform welding duties in the foundry and the Die Repair Department.
Troubleshoot all production tooling problems, performing repairs and maintenance as needed.
Complete forms, die work orders, pictorials, sign-offs, and records as directed.
Keep work area, equipment, and department neat and orderly.
Train new employees.
Perform all other duties incidental to the safe and efficient operation of the tool and die repair department as assigned by supervision.
What Are the Requirements of the Job?

Must be able to perform highly skilled tasks and solve complex problems (Associate's Degree, trade or technical school, journey person certificate)
Ability to work in fast-paced environment.

The Tooling Technician will be responsible for the manufacturing and finishing of our production and prototype thermoforming tooling and parts. The essential duties are as follows but are not limited to:
Building and finishing/polishing of production and prototype tooling and parts by hand and using tools; examination of all surface areas during finishing process.
Performing service and periodic maintenance on vacuum forming tools
Assisting in tool changes
Assisting in shop maintenance tasks as necessary
What You'll Bring

A Leading Automotive Supplier in the Toledo, Ohio area needs 2nd and 3rd Shift Tool & Die Maker's. These are Full Time, Permanent, Direct Hire Positions offering Competitive Compensation, Off Shift Premium, Bonus Potential, Good Benefits, Paid Holidays and Paid Vacation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies.
Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.
Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies, based on specifications.
Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes.
File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to properly fit them together.
Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools.
Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications, making adjustments as necessary.
Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.
Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools, using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloths, or power grinders.
Perform other assignments as directed by your immediate supervisor and/or leadership.
Stop production if unsafe parts, actions or poor-quality conditions exist.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent though graduation from a technical school is preferred.
Complete a certified Apprenticeship program whereby the employee can demonstrate experience using various tools, including but not limited to knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Must be able to read and interpret drawings, follow routers, use simple math to perform basic calculations, and use basic handheld measuring tools.
Must be able to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch or climb for extended periods of time.
Must be able to lift/push/pull objects that are up to 50 pounds.
