The Tool Room Continuous Improvement Machinist will work with engineering, manufacturing, and quality personnel to assure that a safe, quality manufacturing process is performed on time.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Verify operations to be performed and material to be used on each job as directed by the standard work, Team Leader, or Group Leader.
  • Set up Manual or CNC equipment using Quick Change Over (QCO) methodologies.
  • Set up operation of all types of CNC machining equipment, understand and apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, metric measurements, measuring devices and inspection equipment, shop math, problem solving, and mechanical aptitude.
  • Support the design and implementation of automated manufacturing production lines.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, as well as production personnel to review and machine assembly tooling fixtures and Engineering Prototypes.
  • Be a key member of machining components and assist in building and implementing custom machines specifically intended for our internal use or use of our customers.
  • Operate machines and produces consistent quality parts to specifications in the time frame allowed.
  • Use measuring devices and blueprints to inspect parts for quality.
  • Responsible for adherence to 1st Articles and Quality Plans.
  • Use hand tools, grinders, abrasives, and other special deburring tools to remove sharp edges from machine surfaces.
  • Build new tools, jigs, and fixtures.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • High School or GED
  • Two-year Machining degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years of CNC and/or Manual Machining experience
  • Ability to create and troubleshoot CNC programs on machine control
  • Ability to select tools for a new job and trouble shoot tooling issues on existing jobs
  • Must be able to work independently with strong time management skills

**Primary Function:**

Sets up and operates in a team environment one or more machines such as lathes, mills, horizontal boring machine, etc., and performs machining operations consisting of many details on a wide variety of non-repetitive parts, holding close tolerances.

**Types Of Machines, Tools And Equipment Used Or Operated:**

A wide variety of departmental machines such as lathes, mills, horizontal boring machine, jig bore, jig grinder, etc., gages, precision measuring instruments, various hand tools, etc., necessary to carry out the function of the machine.

**Job Details:**

Work is not closely supervised, must maintain a safe work environment. Details are dependent on duties assigned but in general consist of the following:

+ Works from tool and product design prints, sketches, written or verbal instructions.

+ Makes all required mathematical calculations, lays out parts using measuring instruments and handbook tables.

+ Plans proper sequence of operations to carry job to completion.

+ Performs lay out work using measuring instruments and handbook tables.

+ Makes own setups and devises special attachments for performance of the job.

+ Tries out tools made and analyses performance.

+ Determines machine feed and speeds for work involved.

+ Checks own work for conformance to print, specifications, etc.
