My working experience started in June 1976, a couple of days after graduating at MIT, when I was hired by Charles Stark Draper Labs in Cambridge, MA, and assigned to the Industrial Applications Department. A few months later I was given full responsibility for a large project in Italy, consisting in the re-design and implementation of the information system for the distribution of Fiat spare parts worldwide. The new system, which turned out to be an unparalleled success, was based on a brand new Inventory Modeling technology, that I developed in those years with the specific purpose of overcoming the inaccuracy of traditional scientific inventory management. This lead to one of the earliest systems in the world doing \'real\' Inventory Optimization.

In 1980, when a group of colleagues left Draper to found a new company, named ITP, I immediately joined them. ITP experienced a rapid growth and soon became a group of companies, partly located in the Boston area and partly in northern Italy, covering a wide range of activities from System Integration to Management Consulting, from Industrial Automation to Software Development. During this period I was responsible for many important projects, with clients like Olivetti, Alfa Romeo, Electrolux-Zanussi, mainly dealing with highly automated production and distribution systems.

In 1993, I decided, with Joseph Shamir, to found a new company (TOOLS, which later became ToolsGroup), with the main objective of distributing our unique “inventory modeling and optimization” technology in the form of a powerful, yet easy to implement and use, SW product.

Since then, I have been leading all the R&D activities concerning ToolsGroup Supply Chain Planning suites (DPM and SO99+) that are currently recognized as “best-in-breed” worldwide.
