What You'll Need to Succeed: We are looking for a leader who combines financial mastery with strategic vision, and influence. The ideal candidate has: 15+ years of experience in finance leadership roles; at least 5 years at the executive level. Demonstrated experience supporting a company through its path to commercialization-from R&D and prototyping through validation, launch readiness, and early revenue operations. Background in autonomous systems, robotics, advanced mobility, SaaS, deep-tech, or other complex engineering environments is strongly preferred. Experience managing large-scale R&D budgets ($250M+) and translating engineering milestones into financial impacts. Proven capital markets, investor relations, and fundraising expertise. Experience leading in pre-revenue or early-commercialization environments. Strong understanding of multi-state U.S. and Canadian financial and compliance requirements. Meet the Team The Hardware Acceleration team builds the embedded inference foundation that enables Torc's deep learning models to run efficiently and reliably on production AV hardware. Our mission is to convert and optimize perception and planning models for NVIDIA-based embedded platforms, develop custom CUDA kernels and pre/post-processing pipelines, and deliver deterministic, high-performance inference capabilities for the autonomy stack. We work closely with Perception, Application Engine, Systems, and Hardware teams to ensure that optimized models integrate seamlessly into Torc's real-time autonomy platform. About the Role We are seeking an experienced and technically strong Engineering Manager to lead Torc's Hardware Acceleration group. This leader will shape the technical roadmap for model optimization and embedded inference while growing and guiding a high-performing team of engineers. Success requires both deep technical knowledge across CUDA, TensorRT, and embedded ML deployment, and the leadership ability to coach, hire, set direction, and drive execution in a safety-critical environment. What You'll Do Lead the development and optimization of ML inference pipelines on embedded hardware, including model conversion (PyTorch/ONNX), TensorRT integration, and CUDA-based pre/post-processing. Design, review, and guide development of custom CUDA kernels to support proprietary model layers and performance-critical operations. Drive technical execution across model optimization, inference scalability, benchmarking, and real-time system integration. Ensure high-quality C++ and CUDA code through robust design, documentation, and test coverage. Integrate optimized models and processing stages into Torc's Application Engine and support Virtual Driver teams in adopting the optimized inference layer. Meet the Team Responsible for the safe operation of autonomous semi-trucks obeying all traffic laws and complying with DOT regulations. Completes inspections, driving reports and logs, services truck and trailer maintenance such as refueling, tire pressure, lights, etc., and ensures cargo is secured. Navigates inter and intrastate regulations, road and weather conditions, transportation barriers, other driver's actions, etc. Provide feedback about real-world testing to the safety and software development teams. What You'll Do: Driving and ensuring safe operation of autonomous semi-trucks obeying all traffic laws and complying with DOT regulations. Complete all inspections and safety checks before and after operation of the truck. What You'll Do Lead E2E model design and development - define architectures that directly map multi-modal sensor inputs (camera, LiDAR, radar, HD maps) to mid- or high-level driving actions or cost functions. Drive large-scale training and evaluation for E2E learning, integrating data from perception, behavior prediction, and control systems. Develop and refine learning objectives that align with real-world driving metrics: safety, comfort, compliance, and efficiency. Architect scalable pipelines for multi-task, multi-modal learning, leveraging both real-world and synthetic data. Prototype and evaluate new paradigms such as differentiable planning, imitation learning, reinforcement learning, and world models for AV behavior. Collaborate cross-functionally with Perception, Prediction, and Motion Planning teams to align interfaces and ensure consistency between learned and modular components. Establish robust evaluation frameworks for E2E performance, including closed-loop simulation and on-road validation. Mentor engineers and scientists in large-scale experimentation, model interpretability, and data-driven debugging. Stay at the frontier of ML research, exploring advancements in foundation models, sequence modeling, self-supervision, and generative world representations. What You'll Need to Succeed 10+ years of experience developing deep learning systems for perception, planning, or control. M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience). Deep expertise in multi-modal ML, sequence modeling, or policy learning (e.g., Transformers, diffusion models, imitation learning). Proven track record in large-scale model training and optimization for real-world tasks. Strong proficiency in Python, PyTorch, or TensorFlow, and experience with distributed ML frameworks. Solid understanding of sensor fusion, spatiotemporal modeling, and vehicle dynamics. Demonstrated leadership in driving technical roadmaps, mentoring teams, and delivering production-quality ML solutions. Experience using Ray Bonus Points! Experience developing E2E or mid-to-end models for autonomous driving, ADAS, or robotics. Familiarity with differentiable cost maps, latent space planning, or behavior cloning / reinforcement learning in driving domains. Publications or open-source contributions in top-tier ML or robotics venues (CVPR, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICRA, CoRL).
