Access Communications company history timeline

1974

In 1974, citizens and non-profit organizations banded together as the Regina Cablevision Co-operative, believing that a cable company could do more than provide entertainment to the community: it could better it.

Access Communications was established in 1974 as the Regina Cablevision Co-operative.

1990

Once the need for documenting communication access is acknowledged by historians of disability, histories can be done that show how the medical discourse has silenced all those with disabilities, not just those with communication-related impairments. For example, David Gerber, in one of the few studies of this type, has reexamined the pioneering work of Robert Edgerton, showing how Edgerton's adherence to the medical framework prevented him from giving voice to those he reported on (1990).

In 2015, Access Communications acquired Askivision and Saskatoon-based Little Loon Wireless; the purchase of the latter allowed the co-operative to deliver fixed-wireless broadband high-speed internet to rural areas in Saskatchewan.
