Touro College company history timeline
In 1971, Touro College welcomed its first class of 35 students in Midtown Manhattan.
Prior to establishing Touro College in 1971, he served as a professor of sociology for over two decades at City University of New York.
Chartered by the Board of Regents of the State of New York, the College welcomed its first 35 students in the Liberal Arts and Sciences in 1971.
The idea of a campus in Israel was first discussed in 1972 when Doctor Lander visited the country.
A section for women was opened in 1974.
Touro Law Center was established in 1980 as part of Touro College, a private, not-for-profit, coeducational institution based in New York City.
Milestones in the History of Touro College • 1991 • Touro College School of International Business Management opens a Moscow campus, the first American-sponsored business college in Russia.
The Institute for Professional Studies (IPS) was established in 1999 to provide higher education with practical applications for the Chasidic community.
Since 2000, the Touro network has grown to include international sites in Berlin and Moscow, and an ever-increasing number of programs in healthcare fields.
In 2000, a new Lander College for Men was established in Queens.
Physician Assistant, Public Health) opened at the Vallejo, California campus in 2002.
Touro College Berlin - which offers both Jewish studies and professional courses, opened in 2003.
Touro College Los Angeles, a liberal arts college modeled after the program of the Lander Colleges, opened in 2005 in West Hollywood, California.
Touro College South, based in Miami Beach, Florida, opened in 2006.
Touro Law Center moved to its Central Islip location in 2007, adjacent to and working with a federal courthouse and a state courthouse.
In 2007, at least two school employees were found in an internal college audit to have accepted bribes to change grades and provide fake degrees.
Milestones in the History of Touro College • 2008 Continued • Touro College opens in Paris. • Touro’s New York School of Career and Applied Studies (NYSCAS) and the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM) launch seven-year “Fast Track Path” for science honors students.
A distinguished scholar, academic and administrator, Doctor Kadish joined Touro in September 2009 as senior provost and chief operating officer from Northwestern University, where he was a prominent cardiologist on the national stage.

Lander remained president until his death in 2010, and was succeeded by Alan Kadish.
Touro University Worldwide was formed to offer professional degree programs online, and in 2011 New York Medical College, in Valhalla, NY, became part of the Touro family.
Neumann returned to the Touro system in July 2012 to assume leadership of Touro University Worldwide.
Teeks Yenpasook (pictured), a first year student at TUCOM and later AACOM student doctor of the year is the 2018 recipient.
Touro Law establishes a helpline in April 2020 to answer legal questions arising from the Covid-19 pandemic.
