ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
* Perform major cleaning tasks such as vacuuming (using a 20 lb. vacuum daily for 3-4 hours), wet-mopping, sweeping, dusting, emptying trash (lifting waste paper and debris - minimum of 55 lbs.) and pencil sharpeners, cleaning chalkboards and disinfecting drinking fountains.
* Clean restrooms, including floors and all fixtures (i.e.: urinals, toilets, sinks, mirrors, partitions, and counters). Ensure restrooms are clean and disinfected.
* Wash windows and sills (door glass).
* Perform ongoing tasks such as replacing light bulbs (climb ladders up to a height of 16 feet), filling dispensers, and setting up facilities for student and adult use (lifting furniture, boxes, and cafeteria tables-minimum of 55 lbs.).
* Make minor building repairs and promptly report major repairs needed to the Head Custodian.
* Work overtime and on weekends as necessary to meet District events and facility schedules.
* Ensure that all doors and windows are appropriately locked.
* Must be able to up and down stairs frequently, as well as regular bending and standing as needed in a daily shift.
* Assist in major clean-up in summer such as washing desks and chairs, washing down walls, stripping and waxing floors, etc.
* Pull weeds, keep grounds free of rubbish and in winter shovel snow from steps and sidewalks and apply ice melt when appropriate.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
* Maintain a professional relationship with students, faculty, administration and community patrons.
* Submit all data and information as requested.
* Regularly monitor district email for pertinent communication.
* Attend meetings as scheduled by supervisors and District Administrators.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clean and care for building interiors including, but not limited to, floors, walls, ceilings and windows. Cleaning includes, but is not limited to, trash removal, dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, carpet cleaning, washing, stripping/refinishing and operation and maintenance of equipment and tools for such maintenance; change light bulbs; clean light fixtures; climb ladders; lock/unlock areas as required; report evidence of damage and needed repairs; perform other related duties as may be assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required: Good comprehensive skills; ability to understand, follow and perform written instructions; work independently and with supervision; good safety, attendance and past work records; good verbal and written communication skills; and ability to operate all equipment with dexterity and safety.
Preferred: Experience and knowledge working as a housekeeper or custodian in the hotel/motel industry or large service buildings; knowledge of and ability to use and maintain materials, related instruments and equipment necessary with position, i.e., floor machines, ladders, etc.
Selected applicant must become member of Teamsters, Chauffeurs and Helpers Local Union and undergo a pre-employment physical and drug screen.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises Custodians and Housekeepers and personally takes the lead in necessary custodial duties such as sweeping, scrubbing and other related cleaning tasks.
Prepares work schedule for the efficient operation of the entire school campus.
Opens and closes buildings as needed.
Checks heating plant and areas related to heating plant for efficient operation.
Checks building for cleanliness, determines if custodians and housekeepers properly performed the work assigned.
Hoists flags - secures flags.
Sweeps all outside entrances.
Picks up paper and trash.
Runs scrubbing machine and strips and refinishes floors.
Secures and cleans garbage cans.
Assists drivers in unloading or loading trucks.
