Your Everyday
Ensure specimens received by the laboratory are acceptable for testing by applying the appropriate criteria and change or prepare reagents, controls as necessary and records such in log. Label, accession and distribute specimens so that integrity of patient identification is maintained throughout processing and inoculate specimens from all areas of the body on appropriate media. Initiate orders for blood and/or blood components from the appropriate blood supplier. Follow hospital/laboratory safety and infection control policies and report variances to section supervisors as they occur. Determine appropriateness of manual methods, micro-methods, back-up procedures and initiate such procedures. Use computer system to compare patient results to previous results during the same encounter and investigate discrepancies and report test results within established departmental turn-around times after verifying documentation is complete and accurate. Prepare and interpret gram stains and other wet and dry preparations for bacteriology and parasitology. Perform all routine procedures including, but not limited to, ABORH typing and retesting, antibody detection and identification, compatibility testing and serology procedures. Prepare blood components while maintaining aseptic technique and proper storage. Evaluate serological reactivity to assist with antibody identification and crossmatch incompatibilities. Follow universal precautions at all times when dealing with blood or body fluids and disinfect counter tops at the end of the shift with appropriate cleaner. Operate, calibrate, conduct performance checks, and maintain any clinical laboratory instrument or equipment after orientation, troubleshoot basic instrument malfunctions, and document in the appropriate action log. Determine when an instrument's service representative should be contacted for assistance. Analyze quality control material for each procedure, record values according to section policy, and report to technical supervisor when results are outside established limits. Perform comparison studies of precision, accuracy and linearity on new or existing procedures, record proficiency surveys, and route form and reagent quality control as specified in the quality control manuals. Assist in the clinical orientation of new or less skilled laboratory personnel as requested by the section Supervisor. Assures proper packaging and disposal of waste chemicals. Maintain proper documentation (log) of generated waste. Perform order or result entry (manual or computerized) and reviews information for accuracy before verification. Document critical call value notification, duplicate checking, date and time of performance, technologist initials and expected age related “normal” values on all down-time reports as appropriate. Check instruments and benches assigned for appropriate reagent and supply levels and replenishes and notify appropriate person of low inventory items or of any out-of-date reagents contaminated or otherwise unacceptable, record receipt of supplies and reagents, properly initialing and dating the inventory items at receipt, time put into use and expiration, and ensure adequate inventory levels are available for incoming shifts. Receive tissue specimens from surgery, autopsy and the nursing floors, perform proper processing and preservation of tissue specimens, comply with proper specimen storage and preservation of all other non-tissue specimens for non-core laboratory. Prepare necessary reagents and collection supplies for assisting with bone marrow aspirations according to physician orders, assist physicians in the procurement of bone marrow specimens, perform special stains and follow protocols as appropriate.

GENERAL DUTIES
Clinical: Measures and records appropriate vital signs, identifies abnormal values and reports findings to the appropriate nursing staff or medical provider. Assists with patient arrival to the clinic, schedules new and follow-up patient appointments and facilitates a smooth patient exit from clinic. Recognizes emergencies and responds appropriately in adherence to organizational policy and procedure. Provides for comfort needs of patients with consideration of age and special needs. Demonstrates a working knowledge of clinic equipment, including preparation of equipment, testing of equipment for safety prior to use on patients, cleaning and disinfecting of equipment (between patients and at clinic's end) according to hospital policy. Maintains linens, supplies, equipment for clinic use and stocks exam rooms/tables appropriately. Properly collects, prepares, secures laboratory specimens for testing and/or transport when necessary.
Documentation: Documents appropriately in the patient medical record according to established departmental guidelines. Properly navigates Electronic Medical Record to obtain laboratory and radiology results, outside medical records, updates patient demographic data and schedules follow-up appointments. Prepare safety reports when warranted or as directed by the Clinic Manager/designee. Maintains privacy of patient personal health information by ensuring computer screens are secure in the absence of medical/nursing/clinical staff.
Professionalism and Support: Demonstrates honesty, promptness, dependability, courtesy and respect in interactions with patients, caregivers, customers, co-workers and staff. Consults and keep clinic managers informed of clinic activities, requirements, and problems. Demonstrates ability to manage patient and/or co-worker complaints in a calm, positive, non-judgmental manner, and reports these events to clinic manager on a daily basis. Maintains strict patient confidentiality exemplified by discussing issues only with appropriate persons and in a place and manner.
Safety and Infection Control: Implements standard and transmission-based precautions, per hospital policy. Ensures patient safety during clinic visits, per hospital policy. Reports any safety hazards or violations in patient or clinic environment to Clinic Manager or designee. Actively participates in Quality Improvement Process, including QAPI projects and EOC Rounds.
Clerical Support: Participates in the clinic preparation process by gathering appropriate clinical documentation for review by the medical provider. Obtains medical records from outside facilities when needed or requested by medical provider. Scans outside correspondence into the appropriate area of the electronic medical record. Answers the telephone and routes calls promptly to the appropriate person.

Willis-Knighton Health System is seeking a MedicalAssistant for the Orthopedic Clinic on the Bossier campus. The MedicalAssistant will provide nursing care to patients in the physician offices under the supervision of the Clinic Physician. The job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: assess the health status of patients and collaborates with the nursing staff and physician to establish care procedures; contribute to the planning of appropriate nursing interventions; medication administration for oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, or intradermal; assist patients with activities of daily living; document patient assessment; communicate pertinent information regarding patient condition to other members of the health care team; and provides information to patient/family regarding disease process or diagnostic procedures.
A Louisiana license is a requirement for this position and previous orthopedic experience is preferred.
The applicant selected for this position will be required to attend a hospital wide orientation as well as a department orientation upon hire.

We are seeking an MA with clinical experience. A detail-oriented, dependable, organized MA who is able to multitask and has demonstrated a consistent work history will be the candidate chosen for this job! Your responsibilities will include, but limited to: documentation in medical records, responding promptly and appropriately to patient phone calls, ordering tests, precertification, medication reconciliation, phoning in prescription, and medication administration.
Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00pm.
You will not be required to work weekends and holidays.
An orientation will be provided based on experience.

This applicant must be a high school graduate and must be a graduate from an approved medicalassistant program.
