Screens anyone entering the hospital, monitors all activities of guests while on campus, being a visual presence to prevent any criminal activity and or disturbances around the campus. Investigates any instance of criminal activity and or complaint / grievance.

* Performs special / covert operations to prevent car theft, car burglaries, etc.
* Responds to calls involving an individual armed with a firearm or bladed weapon.
* Responds to Armed Active Shooter incidents and effectively applies the knowledge learned in the scenario-based Active Shooter training to preserve the life of those involved.
* Assists Behavioral Health, ED and In Patient staff with restraining aggressive and combative patients / personnel.
* Utilizes a metal detector to search patients for weapons/contraband.

Dispatchers are responsible for working in our Christiana Hospital on 10-12 hour shifts for day or night.
* Answer all incoming calls and prioritizing those calls by their importance.
* Document all information pertaining to the call in CAD and dispatch the appropriate personnel to the incident.
* Provides information to the Officer for report writing purposes. All information entered is time stamped for documenting purposes.
* Monitor assigned radio channels for transmissions. As radio messages are transmitted and received the dispatcher assigned to monitor those frequencies will respond in the appropriate manner, utilizing Delaware 10 code adopted by ChristianaCare and Phonetic Alphabet.
* Ability to multi-task utilizing multiple systems and be in control of assigned position at all times.
* Monitors all fire, burglar, infant alarms, etc. and card access systems for CC.
* Responsible for maintaining current log on for DELJIS and CJIS. Programs are used to assist Officers with pertinent information concerning persons or vehicles regarding their incident.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Safety Officers respond to various requests for assistance to include reports of suspicious or criminal activity. They provide support to staff in handling disgruntled visitors as well as respond to other disturbances.
The Safety Officer also responds to combative patient calls as part of the STARR team. They work under OSHA Blood and Body Fluids Category 1 and use Protective Personal Equipment (PPE) to reduce exposure risks. They control external access and release of deceased patients from Pathology.
Safety Officers also investigate reports of motor vehicle accidents, property damage, and theft documenting events in detailed reports. They are proficient in the use video surveillance systems to monitor campus activity. They use various databases to access information needed to complete reports and/or investigations. They monitor fire safety and submit reports to ensure deficiencies are identified and corrected.
They conduct Fire and Child Abduction drills and submit staff evaluation reports. They perform preventive maintenance inspections on campus fire extinguishers and are familiar with required responses and operation of fire, child abduction, and panic alarms systems. They investigate safety mishaps such as falls or other incidents involving injuries and prepare reports of such events. They maintain commissions as Notary Publics and provide notary services to patients, physicians, and colleagues.
Safety Officers manage the inventory of Lost and Found Property and Patient Valuables. They perform courtesy services such as auto assists, escorts, and vehicle lockouts. They conduct hospital policy enforcement to include colleague parking and wear of identification badges.
