Town of Arlington company history timeline

1812

He later became known as Uncle Sam, with legend stating that the United States stamped on boxes of meat sent to the United States Army during the War of 1812 standing for Uncle Sam.

1826

Lowell, to the north, is the nation’s first planned industrial community (incorporated town, 1826). Connected by Battle Road, Lexington and Concord were the first battlefields of the United States War of Independence.

1846

The town developed as a residential suburb with the arrival of the railway from Boston in 1846.

1864

The cemetery, dedicated in 1864, held members of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge F & AM, formed in 1776.

1867

Arlington, town (township), Middlesex county, east-central Massachusetts, United States It is a northwestern suburb of Boston. It was renamed for George Washington Parke Custis’s Virginia estate in 1867, when it was also reincorporated.

1876

Thompson's father, Doctor Augustin Thompson, developed in 1876, a syrup he called Moxie Nerve Food and marketed it as a tonic to aid digestions.

1884

In 1884, he changed Moxie to a carbonated soft drink that at first was also marketed as a tonic with extravagant claims that it would cure all sorts of ailments.

1970

The Arlington Historical Commission (AHC) was established in 1970 to preserve and protect significant buildings within the Town that constitute or reflect distinctive features of the architectural, cultural, political, economic or social history of the Town.

1988

Though much of the cemetery has since been developed, a geophysical survey of the site in 1988 found remains of the original gate and an obelisk.
