Town of Little Elm company history timeline
The Little Elm post office was established in 1852.
In 1873, Doctor W. A. Gotcher began teaching school on his farm near Little Elm.

In 1913, a new three-room schoolhouse was built on land owned by the Stover family.
Denton's first public library opened on June 6, 1937, in Denton County Courthouse.
Denton's first public library opened on June 6, 1937, in Denton County Courthouse. It quickly outgrew the space and in 1949, the City of Denton donated a tract of land on Oakland Street for a new library.

Many historic structures, roads, and cemeteries had to be relocated due to the rising water, but the lake drew more people to the area and Little Elm was officially incorporated in 1966 with a population of 300.
