We are seeking reliable and hardworking Utility Material Handlers to join our team at The Patriot Group. This posting is for multiple roles (Labor/Team Lead) and you are encouraged to apply regardless of level of experience. The ideal candidate will assist in various tasks to support Material Management and Logistics primarily in a WHSE and outdoor yard environment. The Utility Laborer will perform a variety of manual labor duties, including loading and unloading trucks, operating forklifts, maintaining material inventory, collaboration with Installation Contractors and ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the worksite. This role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, forklift certification/experience, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Required:
Perform general tasks such as lifting, carrying, and moving materials, tools, and equipment in an outdoor yard environment, often in extreme weather conditions.
Load and unload trucks with materials and equipment using forklifts, pallet jacks, telehandlers, and other material-handling tools.
Receive inbound utility materials, verify packing lists, inspect for damage, and reconcile shipments against purchase orders and bills of lading.
Assist in maintaining accurate material inventory records by performing cycle counts, bin audits, and updating stock levels in the Warehouse Management System
Perform electronic tracking using handheld scanners, tablets, or mobile devices to ensure real-time inventory accuracy.
Pull, sort, kit, and stage materials for utility construction crews and contractors, ensuring job packets are complete and ready for release.
Support return-material processes, including receiving unused or damaged materials, documenting discrepancies, and restocking or segregating items.
Operate basic hand and power tools, forklifts, and other machinery safely and in accordance with OSHA and utility guidelines.
Store and organize utility hardware, conductor, poles, transformers, UG materials, fittings, and assemblies in designated yard or warehouse locations.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe worksite including sweeping, trash removal, pallet disposal, yard organization, and general facility upkeep.
Follow instructions to complete assigned tasks accurately, efficiently, and within expected timelines.
Participate in daily safety briefings, tailboards, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and ongoing training to improve knowledge and productivity.
Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and company/utility regulations, reporting any hazards, near misses, incidents, or unsafe conditions immediately.
Collaborate closely with team members, drivers, and supervisors to complete daily tasks, support field operations, and meet material release schedules.
Support emergency response or storm events as required, including after-hours callouts for critical material delivery or kitting.
Desired Skills:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Forklift certification is preferred; telehandler or heavy equipment certifications are a plus.
Previous experience in a general labor, warehouse, utility yard, or construction materials environment-especially involving loading/unloading trucks and managing material inventory-is preferred.
Ability to read and understand simple instructions, packing lists, material pick sheets, blueprints, and safety guidelines.
Basic knowledge of hand and power tools, as well as machinery used in warehouse and yard operations.
Physical ability to lift 50-75 lbs, bend, stoop, walk on uneven surfaces, and stand for extended periods in various weather conditions.
