1869

July 5, 1869 – Reports of first car in Prince Edward Island, Canada published

1899

May 20, 1899 – The first US speed ticket is issued

1920

In 1920, Joseph W. Young, Jr had a dream of founding a new city known as “Hollywood by the Sea.” The city was built around three circles linked by a broad boulevard.

1958

May 18,1958 – Maria Teresa de Filippis becomes first female F1 driver

By 1958, Toyota Motor Distributors was founded, 45 dealerships — including Toyota of Hollywood — had been established, and 288 Toyotas were sold in the United States.

The Diplomat Hotel opened in 1958 on Hollywood Beach.

1961

July 6, 1961 – The last Renault CV4 is built

1962

July 10, 1962 – The three point seat belt is patented

1967

By July of 1967 Toyota was the third best selling import brand in America.

1968

In 1968, the company introduced the massively successful Corolla, still a staple of the Toyota lineup today.

1970

By 1970, Toyota offered 14 models, and new vehicle sales surpassed 200,000.

1985

Toyota is getting some extra promotional mileage from the 1985 summer box-office hit, "Back to the Future," thanks to special appearances in the movie by the Toyota "Dream Truck."

2004

Toyota’s breakthrough hybrid technology, “Hybrid Synergy Drive,” debuts in the all-new 2004 Prius.

2008

In its 50th year in the United States, Toyota introduces the 2008 Toyota Tundra, as well as the second-generation of its iconic Scion xB and the world’s first V8 hybrid, the Lexus LS 600h.

2020

Toyota commits to an additional $13 billion investment in the United States by 2020; including $800 million into artificial intelligence and robotics research through the Toyota Research Institute.
