Responsibilities
Working directly with startup teams to understand their needs and prioritize how we can best support them.
Assisting with ongoing development of products and services to help portfolio companies.
Hosting kick-off meetings and recurring check-in meetings with portfolio company executives.
Creating opportunities for portfolio companies to engage with Toyota and Toyota Group companies.
Facilitating introductions to mentors, customers, partners, suppliers, and others as needed.
Tracking portfolio company KPIs and reporting on progress towards strategic goals.
Documenting best practices and creating resource libraries.
Qualifications
5-7+ years of experience in business development, client management, corporate development, or a similar role.
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent.
Proven ability to collaborate across teams/organizations to deliver on shared objectives.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Self-starter who works well independently but enjoys being part of a team.

The Team

We are aiming to make progress on some of the hardest scientific challenges around the deployment of robots in real-world unstructured environments, by leveraging data from different sources and modalities, and learning transferable priors grounded in the physical properties of the world. Our mission is to develop foundational models capable of understanding how the world works, and in doing so predict possible future states and adapt to new environments and circumstances.
Responsibilities
* Conduct daring research in Computer Vision that solves open problems of high theoretical and practical value, and evaluate solutions on real-world benchmarks and systems, with a focus on robotics.
* Push the boundaries of knowledge and the state-of-the-art in Visual Systems for Robotics.
* Partner with a multidisciplinary team, including other research scientists and engineers across the LFV team, the Robotics division, TRI, Toyota, and our university partners.

Responsibilities
Build and maintain strong baselines comparing composition-only and structure-aware representations across a set of key property prediction tasks.
Prototype and evaluate multi-view representation methods that integrate signals from multiple characterizations and properties.
Develop a reusable evaluation and reporting pipeline to assess generalization, identify failure modes, and quantify uncertainty where appropriate.
Curate datasets and implement preprocessing workflows that better capture complex materials systems and common sources of noise or ambiguity.

The Department
The mission of TRI Robotics is to invent and prove new robotic capabilities required to enable home robots to solve the challenges faced by an aging society. As part of that mission, we are developing a sophisticated suite of open source robotics software called Drake (*********************** for use in our internal robotics projects and the wider community of advanced robotics researchers.
The Team
Within TRI Robotics, the Dynamics and Simulation team develops Drake tools to model and simulate mobile robot dynamics, object manipulation, and perception. We emphasize physical accuracy and robust, performant software permitting controller synthesis, learning, analysis, regression testing, and design in simulation that transfers meaningfully to the real world. Features include:
* Physics-based, high-fidelity, high-performance software tools for simulation of robots and vehicles interacting with their environments.
* Multibody dynamics, rigid and soft body computational mechanics.
* A unique hybrid dynamic system abstraction and infrastructure (like Simulink blocks, but differentiable and symbolically analyzable).
* Solvers for dynamic systems (numerical integration of DAEs, time stepping, event handling).
* Computational geometry, rendering, and contact response (emphasizing manipulation).
* Validation of simulation accuracy and verification of software and numerical methods.
This is open source, modern C++ software, developed using rigorous best practices including extensive unit and validation tests, detailed documentation, and collaborative pre-merge peer review. We encourage publication of novel work in peer-reviewed literature and collaboration with the wider robotics community.
Our team consists of computer scientists and engineers trained at leading academic institutions and innovative companies, with research and practical experience in robotics, computer graphics, computational mechanics, multibody dynamics, numerical methods, and software engineering. We have considerable expertise in all these fields and a lot of software to write, so there is much interesting work to do and plenty of opportunity to extend your knowledge in any of the above areas.
The Internship
We are looking for an intern to work on a research project that will help us advance the capabilities of our simulation tools. During this internship you will collaborate with other software engineers and research scientists to develop physically-accurate, reliable, and fast models and algorithms that are relevant to the simulation and robotics community. Every day, you will work towards solving difficult modeling, mathematical, and implementation problems with a focus on accuracy of simulation results, and reliability and performance of software. Your challenge will be to distill physical and mathematical phenomena into the clearest possible software model, and make it work! The final goal is to publish in a scientific journal and to implement new capabilities in our open source software, Drake.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent; advanced degree, physics and engineering background a plus.
* Experience developing numerical methods and scientific software including physics-based simulation.

The Mission
We are working to create general-purpose robots capable of accomplishing a wide variety of dexterous tasks. The Team
In the Human-Machine Interaction Research group (HMIR), we design, develop and evaluate novel interfaces to improve the safety, well-being, and performance of drivers using human-centered artificial intelligence.
The Internship
As a Research Intern, you will work on a project focused on improving driving safety and performance using the driver's behavioral, cognitive, and emotional states. There will be opportunities to design and run experiments in our driving motion simulator to study how different driver traits and states lead to unsafe driving behaviors, and how human-machine interfaces can be used to improve the driving experience. An ideal candidate should have experience running experiments with human subjects and should be pursuing a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Human Factors Engineering, or related fields. Experience with machine learning, measuring physiological signals (e.g., EDA, heart rate), and eye-tracking is a plus. You will work with a strong team of researchers, and the expected outcome is to have a publication at a human-computer interaction or cognitive science journal/conference.

The Internship
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD research intern to join our Future Product Innovation team and push the envelope on what is possible with Generative AI technologies in the domain of automotive product design. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CAD Generation and Machine Learning or related fields, with demonstrated interest in design and generative AI. In this project, the intern will develop 3D shape generation techniques with applications to CAD such as point cloud to CAD and image to CAD.
We will match the intern with mentors based on their experience. Over the course of the project, in addition to Future Product Innovation group meetings, the intern will also participate in all Human-Centered AI division meetings and meetings with stakeholders from relevant Toyota business groups. We are working to create general-purpose robots capable of accomplishing a wide variety of dexterous tasks. To do this, we're building general-purpose machine learning foundation models for dexterous robot manipulation. These models, which we call Large Behavior Models (LBMs), use generative AI techniques to produce robot action from sensor data and human request. To accomplish this, we are creating a large curriculum of embodied robot demonstration data and combining that data with a rich corpus of internet-scale text, image, and video data. We are also utilizing high-quality simulation to augment real-world robot data with procedurally generated synthetic demonstrations.
The Team
The Robotics Machine Learning Team's charter is to push the frontiers of research in robotics and machine learning to develop the future capabilities required for general-purpose robots able to operate in unstructured environments such as homes or factories.
The Job
We have several research thrusts under our broad mission, and we are looking for a research scientist in any of these areas:
* Data-efficient and general algorithms for learning robust policies using multiple sensing modalities: proprioception, images, 3D representations, force, and dense tactile sensing.
* Scaling learning approaches to large-scale models trained on diverse sources of data, including web-scale text, images, and video.
* Leveraging test time computation for embodied applications.

This is a Summer 2026 paid 12-week internship opportunity. Please note that this internship will be a hybrid in-office role. Our driving simulator is physically located there and the intern is expected to test and deploy software on the platform, as well as collaborate with other researchers.
The Team
The Human Interactive Driving (HID) Research group is focused on designing the future of advanced safety systems, pushing the envelope of safety, driver experience, and automation. Our team consists of cognitive scientists, computer scientists, software engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers, vehicle dynamics experts, designers, and more. We leverage multiple simulation and physical platforms to explore novel interfaces, algorithms, and safety technologies.
Our group is developing next-generation training and assessment tools for performance driving and beyond. We are looking into expanding our driving simulation technology by generating novel driving courses, including layout and other features, based on individual drivers' skill levels, past performance, and long-horizon strategy development. These tracks may also be used to train autonomous and shared autonomy artificial agents
The Internship
We are looking for a 2026 summer research intern in our Los Altos HQ to work on this effort, with an aim of approaching this as a research challenge for combining generative AI and human-factors research. This intern will be expected to work hands-on with a physical simulation system, create working code prototypes, interact frequently with team members, transfer code, design validation experiments, and participate in writing a paper describing the findings, as well as publishing the work.
Responsibilities
* Procedural track generation using generative AI, involving the design and implementation of new or extended generative methods to create novel driving environments.
* Dynamic content creation for our CARLA-based driving simulator, integrating AI-driven or algorithmic content into interactive simulation systems such as CARLA, Unreal, or similar platforms.
* Driver skill assessment, contributing to the development and validation of models that characterize driver behavior, measure performance, and support human-centered evaluation.
Qualifications
* Currently at-least second year pursuing a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics, Human-Robot Interaction, or related fields.
* Experience in generative AI, whether LLMs with non-language tokens or diffusion models.
* Game development experience: Unreal, Unity, Godot, etc. and/or simulation development experience: CARLA, Sumo, Gazebo, AirSim, etc.
* Strong software engineering skills (C++/Python preferred) and analysis/debugging robotic systems.
* Experience working in a shared codebase with multiple collaborators and reviewing others' code.
* Strong written and oral communication skills.
* Experience in working in multi-disciplinary teams. You will be working cross-functionally with UX/UI designers, human-factors researchers, and cognitive scientists.
* Must have a high level of self-initiative to prioritize and manage workload and meet project deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Bonus Qualifications
* Prior experience in ROS / ROS2.
* Prior experience with human subjects or human-centric research.
* Prior experience in scientific Python, R, or similar statistical analysis tools.
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $45 and $65/hour for California-based roles, and between $40 and $58/hour for Massachusetts-based roles. Base pay offered will depend on multiple individualized factors, including, but not limited to, business or organizational needs, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The Team
The long-term vision of TRI's Accelerated Materials Design and Discovery (AMDD) program is to accelerate the development of truly emissions-free mobility. Realizing this vision will require the discovery of new materials and devices for batteries, fuel cells, and more. Our aim at TRI is to merge sophisticated computational materials modeling, new experimental data, artificial intelligence, and automation to significantly accelerate materials research in this area. Our focus is on developing tools and capabilities to enable this acceleration. We collaborate closely with a dozen universities and national labs and our colleagues across global Toyota. AMDD seeks to develop and translate the newest technologies into practice, both within Toyota and the open research community, more broadly.
The Internship
We are looking for an intern researcher to contribute to the development of our physics-based water electrolyzer model. Together, we will develop materials-informed water electrolyzer models that provide insight into the design and testing of zero-gap electrolyzers, or related devices. Your day-to-day may include: data analytics for electrolyzers or half-cell data; mass transport, kinetic, and thermodynamic modeling; and/or structural causal model development.
