The KanCare Ombudsman Volunteer Program will use a VISTA member to serve as the KanCare Ombudsman Marketing VISTA in the southern half of Kansas, based in Wichita. The goal of the project is to improve the quality of life and access to Medicaid services for Medicaid-eligible Kansans. This project will assist in providing a healthier future for Medicaid members in Kansas through volunteers who provide vital information and access so that members may make informed choices regarding their services. By accessing Medicaid services, individuals reduce their risk for homelessness and costly hospitalizations; they increase employability, stability in the community, and overall health. The project will build capacity of the KanCare Ombudsman's Office by developing a sustainable marketing and outreach plan and positioning the office as a viable community resource to reach as many impoverished Kansans as possible. The VISTA will increase office engagement through creative marketing strategies, identifying methods of keeping stakeholder's informed, and bolster social media usage and engagement.
