JPW Companies is the leading New York State AISC Certified Fabricator and Erector, and is seeking to fill the opening of Trades Helper!

Trades Helper plays a key role in the success of the Company. He/she must be sure to follow company policies, operations and work in harmony with co-workers to ensure the Company’s success. He/she performs the day-to-day activities required of them in the field with the goal of meeting the production schedule set forth by the Shop and Equipment Operations Manager, all while maintaining a safe working environment and staying within quality standards.

This is routine work assisting a full performance trades worker. Tasks become more complex as the helper progresses in skill. Assignments are well-defined in nature and the employee is expected to carry them out according to detailed instructions. Work requires the employee to perform tasks requiring moderate physical efforts on a continuous basis and some undesirability is encountered in work conditions which are controlled by precautionary methods or devices. Work is performed under the supervision and direction of a full-performance-level trades worker.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Support the cleaning, lubricating, routine maintenance tasks, on equipment; and the maintaining of service records. Examine parts for damage or excessive wear; repair and replace damaged worn parts as trained. Operate and inspect equipment once trained to diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repair Adjust, maintain, and repair or replace parts, using hand, power tools Uses hand and power tools characteristics of the trade specialty to assist a full performance trades worker in performing maintenance, repairs or tests in a trade specialty. Assembles equipment and materials needed to begin and complete work projects; supplies trades worker with materials and tools required while work is in progress; positions objects for installation, repairs, etc., cleans equipment; stocks maintenance vehicles with tools and equipment for field repairs; gathers salvageable materials in the field and returns them to the repair shop. Performs tasks under the supervision of a trades worker in completing assignments within the specialty as assigned and trained competency.

1. Works in a manner by which he/she and those around him/her are kept safe from injury.
2. Always wears the proper PPE including, but not limited to, safety harness, safety glasses, shields, and gloves.
3. Always uses the proper safety guards and mechanisms in place for all equipment used.
4. Must report any injury to the Shop and Equipment Operations Manager as soon as possible.
5. Encouraged to share any and all safety concerns to Shop and Equipment Operations Manager and/or Human Resource Department.

Physical Requirements

o Possess the coordination, physical strength, and agility to complete required tasks within the allotted time frame.
o Able to quickly and repeatedly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with body, arms and/or legs without restriction.
o Acceptable visual acuity, either corrected or uncorrected.

High school diploma and/or a technical vocational high school diploma; 2 years of shipboard experience

+ Performs a variety of general manual labor tasks including, but not limited to, lifting and moving materials, loading and unloading vehicles, pulling cables and other activities in a helping or assisting mode.
