The Clinical Genetic Molecular Biological Scientist Trainee (CGMBS Trainee) performs a variety of laboratory and administrative tasks to obtain practical training hours in the CLIA-certified clinical laboratory here at CareDx. A CGMBS Intern performs laboratory duties under the supervision of a licensed CLS or the Clinical Laboratory Manager (CLM) and/or designee, who provides specific instruction and training regarding molecular techniques and bench tasks that are to be completed. This position serves as the practicum for the didactic portion of the CGMBS program through San Jose State University. As a training affiliate, this position prepares CGMBS Interns for completion of their program and qualifies them for the ASCP examination.
Responsibilities:
Perform patient specimen processing under the supervision of a licensed CLS.
Perform routine laboratory maintenance tasks and setting up consumables in preparation of laboratory testing.
Assist the CLS in laboratory testing and train under them in molecular techniques.
Receive and accession samples into the laboratory information management system (LIMS) to facilitate sample throughput.
Perform instrument calibrations and maintenance.
Perform data entry and maintain spreadsheets
Participate in materials management activities including tasks like ordering, receiving, unpacking, documenting, and labeling consumables and reagents, and stocking work areas.
Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities.
Perform testing for special research and development studies and train to assist on commercial test offerings that apply to the topics listed in the internship training requirements.
Comply with CareDx quality control policies and document QC activities
Maintain confidentiality of personal health information (PHI).
Identify problems that may affect assigned duties, and following established protocols, correct problems or escalate to Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Clinical Laboratory Manager, or lab Director.
Document corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
Perform additional administrative duties and projects assigned by the Clinical Laboratory Manager.
Comply with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations governing clinical laboratory operations.
Qualifications:
Batchelor's Degree in a biology-related science is preferred
Acceptance into San Jose State University’s CGMBS Program of which we are a training affiliate.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong attention to details
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with CareDx employees at all levels
Validate and current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) Trainee license.
Aptitude for performance of molecular testing techniques (PCR, real-time PCR, etc.)
Previous laboratory experience preferred
Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing, within the work group

The San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) has exciting internship opportunities for Marriage and Family Therapy Graduate Students. The mission of the Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) Internship Program is to provide a quality training experience that will prepare MFT trainees to become competent, effective, and ethical therapists. We value diversity within our staff as well as in our clients and are committed to providing a practicum experience that promotes respect, care, compassion, and understanding.
Interns are paid at an hourly rate that is authorized and updated annually. Trainees are paid for hours worked (20 hours), except for holidays and other requested time off. Students are paid on a biweekly basis for the hours worked during each pay period. The Department does not provide health insurance for trainees but does provide worker's compensation coverage and 24 hours of sick leave coverage in a fiscal year upon working 90 days.
Student intern positions are temporary positions and do not obtain status as a regular County employee.

The Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) is responsible for providing mental health and substance use disorder services to county residents who are experiencing major mental illness or substance abuse related issues. DBH provides mental health and substance use disorder prevention and treatment services to all age groups, with a primary emphasis on treating children/youth who may be seriously emotionally disturbed, adults who are experiencing a serious and persistent mental illness, and individuals who are experiencing substance use disorders.
