The Work-Study Student will assist with:

Primary Responsibilities
Assist with setup, monitoring, and routine maintenance of hydroponic and aquaponic systems (pumps, water levels, filtration, nutrient management)

Silent auction table (i.e., setup and breakdown, collecting auction items, explaining processes, ensuring paperwork is filled out with required information)
Working program booth (i.e, setup/breakdown, explaining/selling goods, cash exchange)
Checking in on vendors (i.e., guiding them to booths, helping set up and break down, guiding them to the bathrooms, snack bar, and vendor refreshment area, restocking refreshment area, passing out and collecting vendor feedback form)
Guiding craft fair attendees
Setup and breakdown (i.e., sweeping, putting up and taking down signs, taking out trash, disinfecting, moving tables)

We want to enhance our career curriculum by providing students with increased opportunities to make connections and apply learned skills across settings. We would augment the learning process by providing meaningful engagement that extends outside the traditional school setting through field trips, work-simulated activities. This would increase in-depth engagement, motivation, and real-world applications by allowing students to take part in work-site tours and volunteer work. Students would further their career development and exploration through observation and learning about job descriptions and requirements in various job settings. Volunteer and intern work would also allow students to practice soft and hard skills in a variety of real-world settings. Workplace Readiness Training will be completed through employability and life skills classes. In these classes, students will learn about interpersonal communication, active listening, time management, and leadership skills. Students will learn time management, financial literacy, disability rights in the workplace, computer applications, job search, and interviewing skills. Students will learn how to complete applications and write resumes, and cover letters.
We would expand on our current work, simulated job rotation, by providing access to gain a variety of employability skills. We would like to provide options for students to further work readiness skills by providing structured exposure for opportunities to practice self-advocacy, social, communication, and interpersonal skills within the school and out in the community. We would like to expand their work readiness and life skills by providing access to presentations, workshops, and/or certifications of interest (i.e. CPR, First Aid, Food Safety, Driver's Education, Disability Awareness, ADA, Financial Literacy etc...) These work-based learning and work readiness training programs will give students valuable experiences. As a result, students will be better equipped and prepared to transition into the workforce.

Job Summary
Construct a foundation for your career at Border States with our two-year, fast-track Distribution Leadership Program. This role includes a combination of meaningful assignments in high-impact roles, formal business and leadership skills learning, and coaching/mentoring from Border States leaders. Exposure to key operations, sales support departments, and location/customer visits round out the learning opportunities in the Distribution Leadership Program. This program was specifically created for recent college graduates and newer professionals looking to build a career path within our industry and is highly customizable. Upon successful completion of the program, the Distribution Leadership Program Trainee will be placed in a position within operations, sales, sales support, management, or corporate role, finding the right opportunity to match up skill sets and interests with business needs. The projected start window for this role will be between April-August 2026, at a mutually agreeable date.

* Completes a 2-year rotational program focused on work life experiences in multiple facets and positions within the business
* Gains an understanding of Border States product and service capabilities through operations and logistics phases

* Progresses through extensive training on leadership skills, product knowledge, and other foundational education courses within classroom, online, and self-guided settings

* Develops higher-level business and market knowledge through travel opportunities to multiple Border States locations throughout the duration of the program
