CapSpecialty is seeking college graduates for a year-long Underwriting Training program to begin in June 2025. Candidates who successfully complete the program will become Underwriters. The program will include hands on training within the environmental underwriting unit, in addition to time spent with various department heads and leaders across the company to learn more about insurance operations, the history of CapSpecialty, how insurance companies generate profits and the role of reinsurance. During the program, trainees will learn the basics of how to underwrite specialty lines insurance, analyze financial statements, interpret a policy form and interact with CapSpecialty's wholesale broker partners. Additional training will encompass negotiation skills, presentation skills and decision-making skills. Participation in department meetings, roundtables, monthly business reviews (MBRs), Joint Accountability Groups (JAGs) and large claim meetings will be a critical component of the program. Trainees will spend time with Actuarial, Marketing & Engagement, Claims and Portfolio Management during their training, in addition to accompanying members of the underwriting team on marketing visits. Formal performance evaluations will occur at three, six, nine and 12 months. The Underwriting Training program is designed to provide candidates with the knowledge and skills required to begin a successful underwriting career.
**Duties/Responsibilities:**
* Candidates will become immersed in the insurance principles they learn so that they have a basic understanding of how to evaluate a risk and can move into a production role upon completion of the Underwriting Training program.
* Candidates will apply underwriting analysis on actual accounts to support production underwriters.
* Candidates will begin to develop relationships with their assigned brokers.
* Candidates will perform other duties as needed.

Some problems in life are too difficult to handle alone. When problems like tensions in a marriage, behavioral issues with a teen or pre-teen, depression, anxiety, or daily stressors overwhelm someone's life, they do not need to walk that road alone. With over a hundred years of dedicated service to our neighbors in need, Catholic Charities Counseling Services, with the crucial help of our interns, is able to provide culturally competent, high quality mental health services to individuals, families, children, and couples of all faiths and backgrounds.
**Catholic Charities' Mental Health Internship Program aims to compliment your coursework with an in-person clinical experience. As an intern, you will gain experience, confidence, and professional growth by managing your own client caseload. Interning with us provides a rewarding cross-cultural opportunity to gain experience in mental health with the satisfaction that you are making a difference in people's lives, who struggle to receive quality mental health services due to the effects of poverty.**
The internship program pairs you with both a clinical supervisor and clinical team for support as you provide mental health services to the local community. Under the supervision and with the support of Catholic Charities' experienced therapists, interns provide in-office psychotherapy and counseling.
**Expected Availability and Commitment:**
* Internship duration of two consecutive semesters or one year
* 10 to 24 hours per week on-site during office hours (Monday through Friday beginning at 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
**Required Training:**
Interns train and work with Catholic Charities' mental health professionals.
****Required Qualifications:****
* Students must be enrolled in a master's degree program in Social Work or a counseling related field.
* Strong interpersonal skills; a team player with a passion for developing and maintaining strong relationships.
* Strong oral and written communication skills; bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus!
****Helpful Skills for the Role:****
* Culturally competent and has the ability to work with clients from all faiths and backgrounds
* Ability to recognize and navigate the added challenges of people living in poverty to receiving mental health services
* Ability to communicate in Spanish but not required
