JOB SUMMARY: We're seeking a detail-oriented and safety-driven intern to conduct fire safety inspections across residential and commercial properties. In this role, you'll ensure compliance with local fire codes and ordinances, identify potential hazards, and help educate property owners on fire prevention best practices. This role is ideal for a motivated student interested in fire safety, emergency services, or public health. The position is for the summer months typically based on a 40-hour work week. JOB DUTIES: 1. Primary responsibility will be to conduct fire inspections to promote fire safety and prevent fire hazards. These inspections will include site meetings with property managers and owners. 2. Enters inspection results in the computer data system and manages various computer applications as assigned. 3. Prepares and submits reports of inspection findings with pertinent code sections of violations. 4. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Associate's degree or equivalency of college hours in the process of obtaining a bachelor's or master's degree in fire science or a related field. 2. A minimum of six months of general work experience. 3. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of fire codes and inspection regulations. 4. Possession of a valid driver's license. 5. Proficiency with current computer technology, job-specific software, and customer service systems. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Subject to high levels of noise for an extended period. 2. Subject to extremes of temperature for prolonged periods or abrupt temperature changes. 3. Subject to exposure to fumes or disagreeable odors. 4. Subject to inclement weather conditions. 5. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. 6. Electronic Components: Will be responsible for designing and testing various electronic control modules as well as various electronic components. Will work with various internal Caterpillar clients to understand controller/component requirements, help design Printed Circuit Board layouts as well as perform digital/analog/power circuit analysis and testing. Other duties may include working with suppliers, testing the controllers/components in various environments, ensuring that FMEA's [Failure Mode and Effects Analysis] are conducted and documented to meet stringent Caterpillar quality requirements. Embedded Software Development: Develop embedded software in C, C# and/or C++ for various electronic control modules. Some examples of embedded software development applications include Datalink communications, Inputs and Outputs [Sensors and actuators], speed calculation, injection/spark timing, memory management, CPU optimization, multi core design and implementation etc. In addition, some areas of work include developing scripts in Python/Visual Basic for automation.
