The Assembly Operator is responsible for performing assembly tasks as part of a production line. This role requires the ability to follow detailed instructions, blueprints, and work specifications to assemble parts and products. The Assembly Operator ensures that all products meet quality and safety standards, contributing to the efficient and timely delivery of high-quality products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and production orders to perform repetitive assembly operations.
Utilize hand tools and simple power equipment, such as hammers, pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, presses, and other similar tools to assemble parts.
Operate test equipment to check sub-assemblies for functionality; notify supervisor of any issues.
Perform a variety of bench operations, including assembling components like plates, springs, “O” rings, racks, and valves, using screws, nuts, gaskets, spacers, and other parts.
Package finished products and prepare labels as required.
Conduct minor setup activities for tools and equipment as needed.
Record production data, including job numbers, part numbers, operations performed, and quantities completed, accurately in the computer system.
Report defective materials, incomplete operations, or unusual conditions to supervisors.
Maintain a clean and orderly work area, adhering to 5S standards.
Follow safety guidelines and practices according to company policies.
Participate in quality checks and adhere to procedures for non-conforming parts.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and demonstrate a commitment to teamwork by collaborating with colleagues to achieve production goals.
Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
Participate in special projects and complete additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Experience: Minimum of 1-3 months related experience in assembly or manufacturing preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Structural Assembler - 1st Shift

As Saab continues to grow its advanced manufacturing facility in West Lafayette, IN, we are seeking Structural Assemblers to build the aft fuselage for the U.S. Air Force new military trainer, the T-7A Red Hawk. These positions are responsible for assembling the aircraft structure, training new team members and taking an active role in defining our state-of-the-art production system. Assemblers selected will receive paid, on-site job training through our Aerospace structures training academy. The anticipated start date for Assemblers is mid to late January 2026.
Responsibilities include:
Execute standardized working procedures to deliver 100% quality according to requirements to install systems and final mechanical assembly on the aircraft structure
Deliver work according to quality requirements and work instructions; implement the requirements in daily ways of working in a team-based environment
Support daily, incremental continuous improvement highlighting advancement opportunities in safety, quality, cost, delivery, and morale
Ability to complete functional testing of assemblies
Handling of “Class A” surfaces which includes touch-up painting
Sign off when work is complete according to specification
Support the training and transfer knowledge to new employees

What you'll do:
The Production Technician is responsible for a wide range of skills including: assemble, fit and mount sub-assemblies, components, and standard fixed assemblies in electrical control equipment. Perform assembly required for test preparation and final inspection. Use established power checking procedures and equipment to verify electrical/mechanical integrity of units assembled. Perform all assignments within acceptable quantity and perfect quality requirements in keeping within assigned functions
Assemble panelboards and/or switchboards to customer specification based on electrical drawings, manufacturing schematics, and work instructions with the use of hand and power tools.
Inspect and test finished products to maintain quality standards and ensure conformance with specifications and codes.
Communicate and escalate problem areas or parts shortages to ensure jobs are completed on time.
Perform Lean Initiatives by recommending suggestions for improvement related to quality, work processes, and environmental safety and health.
Actively participate and demonstrate competency in health and safety training.
Maintain equipment, tools, and work area per established 5S guidelines.

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum one year of experience in an assembly related role with the use of hand and/or power tools (experience in automotive repairs, construction, carpentry, or other assembly type environments will be considered).

What you'll do:
Perform the assembly, decoration, and packaging operations for finished goods.
Complete visual quality inspections of parts produced at work center while performing assembly operations.
Identify work center, work order, and part quality concerns.

Forklift Operators will operate a forklift to stack, move, and retrieve finished goods, supplies, and materials required throughout Production. The Forklift Operator is responsible for accurately identifying finished goods produced, utilizing RF scan equipment, applying appropriate finished good labels, and maintaining inventory accuracy at machine and wrapper locations. Forklift equipment, batteries, RF scanners, dock equipment and doors, are critical tools used by the Forklift Operator. The Forklift Operator supports the stability of Production by following established processes and 5S structure, focusing on product details, and ensuring safe, OSHA compliant operation of equipment while operating in the facility
What you'll do:
Apply FG labels, scan into inventory, and move finished goods from machine location to next destination
Audit inventory in production locations, validating product physical and transactional locations match, as reflected in the MRP system
Utilize Tablets to print labels with accurate pallet quantities based on the work order quantity required per pallet
Audit the accuracy of Item # on labels with the product it is applied to for match verification
Utilize RF Scan Guns for all transactional processes including disposition to inventory, move location, and manual IN transactions
Maintain Wrapper stretch-wrap refill quantities, cleanliness on and around the wrapper / conveyors, and troubleshoot the Wrapper during malfunctions
Perform minor automatic wrapper troubleshooting and report major malfunctions to maintenance
Deliver work order material, components and packaging items to machine promptly
Return work order material, components and packaging items to staging and return locations as defined
Conduct banding, slip sheet, and dust cover applications when required by work order
Maintain 5S standard locations throughout the facility and follow all standard processes relevant to the position
Successfully complete OSHA required certifications, recertifications, and Operator Inspection Checklists
Conduct safe and OSHA compliant lift operation, exercising particular caution in production areas and intersections
Operate fork and clamp attachments with extreme caution and attention when picking product from machines, wrappers, and trailers, ensuring no equipment damages are incurred
Complete required forklift maintenance which includes: battery watering, opportunity charging, equalizing charging, reporting of lift and dock door functionality
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
Standing and walking for the duration of your shift
Reach, climb steps, bend, twist and apply pressure frequently
