Summary:

Essential Work Functions:

Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures, assist physicians during treatments, and monitor patient responses
Maintain a safe and comfortable environment for patients recovering from medical conditions or surgical procedures
Document comprehensive patient information, including vital signs, medications, treatments, and care outcomes, in the medical record
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, physical therapists, and social workers, to create and implement individualized care plans
Manage multiple patients efficiently, prioritizing care based on acuity and clinical needs
Ensure infection control practices are strictly followed, including hand hygiene and PPE use
Advocate for patients' needs and preferences, ensuring they are respected and integrated into the care plan
Facilitate discharge planning, coordinating with patients, families, and external resources to ensure a smooth transition from hospital to home
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards

A Day in the Life of a Forensic Nurse
The Forensic Nurse will provide timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to the victims of trauma and violence, to include but not limited to domestic violence (intimate partner violence), child abuse, strangulation, elder abuse, sexual assault and abuse). The Forensic Nurse must follow protocols established by the Medical Director and/or management of the Forensic Nurse Program for which the Forensic Nurse is employed.

Here is What You Will Be Doing:
Triages patients to determine if medical exams are needed before a forensic exam.
Coordinates a team-based care strategy incorporating all agencies involved in assisting the victim and coordinate referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up as needed for each patient.
Performs a complete physical and forensic evidence collection examination including Head-to-Toe assessment for trauma, detailed genital examination, forensic specimen collection and documentation, including photography, and assess for mandatory reporting status, reporting when appropriate.
Performs and documents sexual assault and forensic interview accurately and in accordance with the Forensic Nursing Program requirements.
Supports and participates in legal proceedings as needed.
Participates in quality assurance projects, community education, peer review and maintain medication test annually.
Debriefs as needed to maintain staff emotional and physical wellness.
Performs all forensic duties in compliance with Forensic Nursing Program protocols and regulations.

Here is What You Need:
Wyoming Registered Nurse License or enhanced Nurse Licensure (eNLC)
Two (2) or more years of experience in forensic and/or emergency nursing
Cheyenne Regional RQI within 14 calendar days of start date
Fingerprint background check at hire and every five years thereafter.
