The Travis County Clerk is hiring for Court Clerk I positions within the Civil, Probate, and Misdemeanor Divisions. This is the first level in a series of clerk positions. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This is the second in a series of four court clerical-related job classifications within the Administrative Support job family. Incumbents perform duties of moderate complexity. This classification is distinguished from Court Clerk Assistant in that incumbents routinely review the work performed by the Court Clerk Assistant, perform fewer general clerical duties and require greater independent judgment. This classification is distinguished from Court Clerk II in that incumbents do not regularly perform the majority of their work in a court setting and do not function as lead workers or have regular supervisory duties.
* Assists and answers questions from the public received in person, by phone or by email regarding the status, disposition, pending actions or other aspects of court cases. Directs customers to the appropriate court clerk. Processes incoming faxes and faxes document confirmation returns. Sorts, logs and distributes incoming mail and legal documents. May date-stamp incoming documents. Performs filing duties. Makes copies when appropriate. May schedule wedding appointments. May provide notary services to public.
* Serves as liaison or primary point of contact with defendants, plaintiffs, families, judges, court personnel, Constable's Officers, attorneys, County and District Attorney's Office, law enforcement agencies, interested parties, and the general public regarding status, disposition, pending actions of individual cases and parties' actions. Assists public and departments on office policy and procedures. Responds to legal and administrative inquiries. Takes initial steps to resolve citizen complaints and ensures department policies and procedures are met. Provides technical advice and assistance regarding legal documents of all types.
* May assess fees and fines, receive payments, and perform as cashier for the office on a daily basis. Accepts monies in the form of cash, money orders and cashier checks and issues signed receipts. Receives payment from public for fees and lower court appeal bonds. Conducts cash transactions as payments for warrants including entering credit card transactions and mail payments. Prepares bank deposits. Makes daily and monthly reports to reconcile receipts.
* Receives and processes petitions, indictments, tickets, affidavits, complaints, applications or information instituting a cause of action and makes appropriate notations in computer system including data element codes. Notifies appropriate authorities of filing when required by law. Conducts review of legal documents submitted, including those submitted electronically. Determines the legal and factual issues presented and dockets the filing into the case tracking system with the appropriate code structure. May process emergency protection orders, peace bond applications, school cases, property hearings, animal cruelty seizures, unlawful towing of vehicles and writs of re-entry. May research and verify petitions and orders for expungement. Maintains a tracking system for processing acquittal expungement orders. Routes assigned causes of action to court, as required. May determine nature of suit and assess fees and fines. Reviews documents submitted in assigned cause of action and determines case impact. Makes appropriate notation on case docket, and on computer system.
* Initiates new cases and updates the status of existing cases in the automated case management system. Determines the category and description of each document or transaction by reviewing event logs and case dockets. Organizes, bar codes, and scans documents into the document imaging system. Indexes each document by entering the appropriate category codes and descriptions so that documents can be retrieved quickly using a variety of data elements. Uses scanning software to input case information. Captures images and performs quality assurance. Scans incoming legal documents. Performs quality verification procedures on scanned documents prepared by co-workers. Assesses scanned electronic images for legibility, blank documents and missing records.
* Prepares or issues summons, capiases, warrants, commitments, subpoenas, citations, writs, injunctions, protective orders, restraining orders, judgments, notices and executed commitments by statute, rule, order of court or request by customer. May accept pleas, pleadings, and motions and records all documents. Maintains up-to-date docket detail retrieval to provide accurate information to judge and interested parties. May prepare extensions, deferred dispositions, defensive driving requests and determines if conditions are met. May review and verify license suspension orders and submit documentation to law enforcement agencies. Reviews and may interpret orders signed by judge to determine further action required. Follows through on action. Receives and processes exhibits to be filed, follows through on orders for consolidation, severance or transfer. Prepares post-judgment documents, such as writs of habeas corpus, abstracts of judgment, order of sale, and writs of execution in compliance with statutes, rules, case law and customer requests. Inspects proposed orders and court records for correctness before submitting to judge.
* Sets cases for trial and notifies parties of scheduled settings. Files pleadings and records docket information. May schedule criminal and civil bench and jury trials. Prepares and issues subpoenas, judgments and orders. May coordinate with jury office to ensure adequate availability of jurors. Assists judge in courtroom with jurors and other parties during trial. Issues notices, prepares documents and files for court, and ensures equipment and materials are prepared daily for courtroom. Checks in parties arriving for trial and assists judge in courtroom. May schedule interpreter if needed. May prepare commitments and assist judge with jail call. May assist inmates who have limited English skills. May prepare appeals, including accepting bonds and determining due dates to be filed with Appellate Court. May process, execute and distribute judgments, opinions and mandates from Appellate Court.
* May provide radio and telecommunications services to deputies in the field. Receives, evaluates and responds to radio traffic. Maintains radio or phone contact and monitors deputies. Processes information received from field deputies and updates deputies with research.
* May calculate judgments and writs at multiple interest rates. Prepares public notices of property sales and postings. Prepares and files documents of sale, including deeds. Prepares legal notices of eviction. Maintains inventories of seized property and funds and arranges for storage, as required.
* Works closely with division managers on special projects. Conducts research inquiries in multiple databases. Updates legal files with pertinent information. May coordinate for off-site storage of records. Performs statistical analysis and produces activity reports.
* May receive warrants and processes warrant information into computer system. Conducts research on parties named in warrants and updates files. Prepares and mails notices to individuals with outstanding warrants. Notifies deputies of outstanding warrants. Tracks warrants currently bring worked. Works with deputies in clearing outstanding warrants. Closes outstanding warrants when obligations fulfilled.
* May notify law enforcement authorities and other essential parties when a protective order becomes final. Assists customers with Legal Ease payments and receives approval information from bank. Coordinates files going to off-site storage and docketing of civil case files and civil bond forfeitures cases.

Education and Experience:
Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration or a directly related field AND two (2) years of responsible clerical experience, including familiarity with legal procedures, terminology, the court system, and customer service;

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NUTRITION AND SUPPORT SERVICES

Supervises activities related to the management of the Central Kitchen (Cook Chill) facility including menu planning, food manufacturing and preparation, and sanitation. Ensures compliance with applicable laws, rules, guidelines including those promulgated by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, Texas Department of State Health Services and the Dallas County Health and Human Services Department, and the Texas Department of Agriculture.
Management Scope: Supervises staff of approximately 20 that includes one Production Manager, two Sergeants, thirteen Cooks, Detention Service Officers, and inmate workers. Functions as Division Commander in absence of the Director.
Responsibilities
1. Manages menu planning, nutritional analysis, and evaluation of menu plans for Dallas County Jail and Juvenile facilities that comply with the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Develops cost effective general, medically therapeutic, and faith-based menus that are balanced, nutritious, and comply with local state, and federal regulatory and detention standards including the Texas Commission on Jail Standards and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
2. Oversees and manages the technical aspects of kitchen sanitation. Directs Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) program. Manages department's food protection management certification and food handler license program. Conducts food safety and sanitation related training. Participates in regulatory inspections, including those conducted by the Dallas County Health and Human Services Department and the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.
3. Reviews and investigates grievances, complaints, and requests related to food service. Formulates responses.
4. Supervises a staff. Trains, evaluate, disciplines and coaches staff as needed.
5. Works with medical personnel and accesses patient (inmate) medical records to ensure medically therapeutic diets are in accordance with doctor's orders. Works with the Inmate Services Division, Religious Service Section to develop and implement faith-based meal plans.
6. Coordinates with the Sheriff's Buyer (food service) regarding food specifications, bids, and the nutritional value and quality of foods.
7. Assists Food Service Director in preparation of $10+ million-dollar budget to include planning and review.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Experience and Training:
Education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in in food service, hospitality, facilities, business management, or a job-related field of study. Three (3) years' experience in an institutional food service environment with one (1) year supervisory experience required. Prefer experience in a jail/prison setting, school district, military, or hospital.
Special Requirements:
Registered as a Dietitian through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and/or a Texas dietitian license through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Completion of an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited program OR Dietetic Internship. Knowledge of FDA Food Code and Texas Food Establishment Rules. Skilled in standard use of software applications. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, with a good driving record.

Base Pay: $20.86 Hourly . SUMMARY: Operates large and valuable equipment. Operates various types of heavy equipment engaged in construction, repair, or maintenance of roads and beaches. Required to attend annual sea turtle monitoring certification class and comply with the beach maintenance permit.
Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and other irregular hours. The employee is required to be on duty before, during, and after natural disasters and emergencies, as directed by the supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Serves as primary operator of heavy gasoline and/or diesel equipment, such as a maintainer or a gradall, engaged in beach maintenance and operations or complex construction and repair work.
Operates other equipment used in beach construction, maintenance, and repair, such as front-end loaders, tractor-mowers, trucks, street sweepers, backhoes and rollers.
Checks oil, water, fuel, tires, hydraulic system, etc., and makes appropriate adjustments to be sure vehicle or equipment is in proper operating condition before leaving for job site. Performs minor repairs and cleaning of equipment.

- A bachelor's, associate degree in related field, or industry professional-level certification may be substituted for certain years of experience.

Purpose:
Under close supervision, this position performs tasks of general labor in the collection and disposal of trash and recyclables and the recovery and processing of recovered resources or in the support of the operations in the collection or disposal process.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Picks up, processes, or disposes of trash, brush, litter, recyclables, bulky items, re-use items, or compostable items by operating trash collection equipment as appropriate.

Performs basic vehicle inspections, maintenance, and repairs including trash carts.
Learns and follows routes, reads street maps and micro routes to locate route destinations.
Completes paperwork, forms, and other reports related to collection activities.
Uses hand tools such as backpack blower, rake, shovel, and sweep to stack, load, and unload smaller debris and litter.
Cleans up illegal dump sites parkland, targeted encampment sites, and other sites with high volume of trash-related complaints or concerns throughout the City of Austin.
Provides information to customers, when appropriate, and responds to routine customer questions about work being performed. Places customer notices, door hangers, and public information literature.
Follows all safety rules. Observes and reports accidents, burglaries, and hazardous situations.

Position Overview for Operational:
This position(s) will be driver helper and may require some or all of the following:
Servicing approximately 700-1500 homes utilizing a commercial waste management vehicle. Boarding and exiting the cab of a collection truck, as well as stepping on and off the rear step using hand and foot holds. The position will be retrieving carts and bags from house to house with continual stretching, bending and stooping and will require pulling your own body weight.
Delivering, exchanging and maintaining ARR Carts and preparing inventory for deliveries as well as repairing and cleaning and/or disassembling non-usable carts that are picked up from customers throughout the city.
All positions are very physically demanding and may manually collect bags, branch bundles, personal containers and 96-gallon carts from curbside. Depending on the position, they may transport collected materials via a rear-loader and unload them at processing site.
All positions work in all types of inclement weather (i.e. cold, wet, hot, etc.) and will be on their feet, walking, bending, stooping and picking up heavy items for most of their workday.

Driving Requirement:
This position requires a valid Texas Class C Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
If required, as a condition of your employment for this position, you will be required to obtain the Commercial Learners Permit (CLP), which is required prior to Entry Level Driver Training (theory), which should be completed within the first 30 days of hire. Additionally, you will be required to obtain a State of Texas commercial driver license (CDL) within 120 days of hire date. Physical requirements for Operational Positions:
The employee is required to perform the following tasks during the normal course of an approximately eight (8) to ten (10) hour day, four (4) to six (6) days a week.
This position involves sitting while driving a commercial refuse vehicle as well as entering or exiting the cab and the rear step of the truck using hand and foot holds pulling body weight about 18-36 inches around 1250 times per day. The employee will apply up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and less force frequently to move objects. The position requires constant standing and grasping of hand holds roughly 32-54 inches from step to handle while riding on the back of the truck with frequent stops. This will involve continuous use of arms, shoulders, legs and feet to operate drive/steering inputs. Additionally, the employee will frequently be expected to perform tasks involving stretching, bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling, lifting and stooping while inspecting vehicle, while rolling 50+ pound refuse containers or throwing items into a refuse truck at approximately 5 feet high.
This position walks from house to house to retrieve carts, brush, bulk, and bags for approximately 8 -10 hours during a normal workday and works in extreme heat, cold, rain and other bad weather. Additional hazards include working close to mechanical parts, oils, fumes/odors/gases, noise, repetitive motions and vibration which expose joints and muscles to vibration and shock produced by the truck as well as walking near traffic, uneven surfaces, mud, snow, ice or rain daily. Employees may come in contact with blood and/or other potentially infectious materials.
Employees must have sufficiently good eyesight to drive and inspect trucks and other equipment. Additionally, listening while driving is necessary to hear emergency vehicles and other issues with traffic or operational equipment. Employees must also be able to hear and speak to communicate with supervisors, dispatchers, and citizens.

Management Scope: Manages generally two hundred (200) exempt and non-exempt staff members and accountable for approximately $6.5million in operating budget expenditures and contract services.1. Purpose:
Under limited supervision and using comprehensive knowledge, review, inspect, analyze, and/or investigate development, construction, businesses, remediation plans, and pollution events to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. 5. Maintains all vehicles, equipment, and devices used in investigations, emergency management, major disasters and severe weather, hazmat incidents, and other fire department activities for immediate response and use.
