Overview
TRC is seeking a highly motivated Senior Roadway Engineer for our growing transportation practice in Ohio.
Working on the Transportation team at TRC offers the opportunity to engage in transformative projects that enhance transportation infrastructure and improve community connectivity.
Position can be based in one of our TRC offices in Cleveland or Columbus Ohio.
What you will be challenged to do:
This position will be a member of our roadway group and will lead and assist in various tasks including plan preparation, quantity calculation, geometric design, drainage design, MOT, specifications, cost estimates and other related tasks.
MicroStation, AutoCAD (optional), OpenRoads, MS Office and other design software will be used, and all work will be in collaboration with other engineers and technicians.
This position will also help mentor young engineers and will be given the opportunity to develop into a project manager. Candidates with a background in preliminary engineering or development of detailed plans and specifications are preferred. Candidates must possess strong technical skills and the ability to work well in team environment on multidisciplinary projects.
Responsibilities
* Prepare and/or preferably direct the preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules and designs for roadway design projects.
* Review project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, client contract requirements, and related specifications.
* Show understanding of team management, resource needs, prepare CPM schedules and track project progress.
* Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods and occasionally represent the organization in meetings to resolve important questions, and to plan and coordinate work.
* Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
* Responsible for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness, follow-through and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
* Research design options and document findings
* Keeps supervisor informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.
* Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies.
Qualifications
Professional requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited University or College
* 8+ years of Design experience
* Professional Engineering License in Ohio or ability to obtain one within the first 3 months of employment
* Experience with AutoCAD (optional)/MicroStation/OpenRoads Design
* Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel and various engineering software systems
* Familiarity with AASHTO and ODOT plan preparation requirements for roadway projects
* Actively engage multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers and encourages development
* Experience with Ohio DOT and Ohio municipalities preferred

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.

Are you an experienced engineer ready to lead high-impact work within one of the nation's most mission-critical nuclear environments? COMPA Industries is seeking a Senior Engineer (Design Authority Engineer) to provide technical leadership, solve complex engineering challenges, and support Savannah River Site (SRS) CD-3 and CD-2/3 scopes.
This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned engineering professional who excels in advanced technical judgment, multidisciplinary coordination, and DOE nuclear facility environments.
🧭 Key Responsibilities
Define and execute technical programs involving complex or controversial engineering issues.
Provide detailed technical review/input for CD-3A D&R, CD-3C Concrete Removal, Coatings Removal, Temp HVAC, and CD-2/3 deliverables.
Prepare requirements documents, inspection/test plans, and engineering packages.
Lead proposal reviews, building walkdowns (including 226-F), and technical assessments.
Serve as Primary or Backup Design Authority for mechanical/electrical systems.
Ensure engineering compliance with DOE and site requirements, QA, CM, work control, and radiological practices.
Communicate technical results clearly to management, peers, and project stakeholders.
Mentor junior engineers and support cross-discipline coordination.
🎓 Required Qualifications (Must Meet All)
Education
One of the following is required:
Ph.D. in an engineering/science discipline + 2+ years experience; OR
Master's degree + 5+ years experience; OR
Bachelor's degree + 7+ years experience
Technical Skills & Experience
Recognized internal expert in the engineering discipline; able to solve any problem in the field.
Experience interpreting electrical & mechanical drawings, blueprints, and engineering schematics.
Strong understanding of DOE, federal & state regulations, engineering/QA standards, radiological control, configuration management, and site work control procedures.
Nuclear or chemical process design experience within the past 10 years (preferred/strongly relevant).
Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering efforts, manage schedules, and deliver compliant technical products.
Security Clearance
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-clearance.
Active L/Q within the past 2 years preferred.
Must be eligible under an active eFOCI and Facility Clearance (handled by COMPA).
⭐ Preferred Qualifications
Prior SRS or DOE facility engineering experience
Prior Design Authority Engineering experience
Working knowledge of DOE CD-series projects (CD-3A, CD-3C, CD-2/3)
Prior experience leading engineering planning, proposals, and technical reviews
💵 Compensation
💲 Salary Range: $90 - $96 per hour
Competitive rate based on experience, with long-term contract potential.
🏷️ Work Conditions
Up to 40 hrs/week (5/8s, 4/10s, or 9/80 schedules available).
Occasional overtime may be required.
Limited travel for required job-related training (pre-approved).
