Position Summary:
The Senior Design Engineer is a technical leader specializing in mechanical design, CAD modeling, and drawing creation for custom turbomachinery (pumps, turbines, compressors, etc.). This role applies advanced GD&T, tolerance analysis, and DFM/A principles to deliver accurate, cost-effective, and manufacturable designs. They support clean-sheet turbomachinery design, modifications to existing designs, resolve production issues, and drive design process standardization across the business.
Key Results Areas:
1. Lead the 3D modeling phase of a project to complete an assembly that will meet technical and manufacturability requirements within budgetary and schedule constraints.
a. Function as part of the project team to create part models and assembly models that are used for engineering analysis and drawing creation
b. Work with the manufacturing team to design the cost out of parts while employing knowledge of "design for manufacture, assembly, inspection, and test" principles.
c. Lead activities to improve execution of the modeling phase of a project.
d. Perform engineering analysis for first-cut sizing of components.
e. Perform tolerance stack analysis with cross functional inputs to ensure critical fits and clearances are achieved.
2. Create the manufacturing drawing package from solid model geometry that will meet technical and manufacturability requirements within budgetary and schedule constraints by using the following:
a. Dimensioning and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) expertise.
b. Knowledge of manufacturing and inspection processes.
c. Checking drawing/design package for complete and accurate content and to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
d. Lead activities to improve execution and efficiency of the drawing creation and checking phase of a project.
3. Work with project team and manufacturing group during manufacturing phase of the project to disposition non-compliant parts.
4. Lead Design improvement and standardization initiatives and/or lead and develop special business-level protocols
a. Develop and standardize processes, tools, guidelines, training aids, etc. related to B-N Design. Lead and implement special business-wide protocols and procedures as needed by the overall business.
