Triad Hospitals company history timeline

1999

1999: LifePoint Hospitals Inc. is formed following the spinoff of 23 hospitals from Columbia/HCA.

2000

June 2000: Community Health Systems, Inc. is taken public for the second time on the New York Stock Exchange trading under the symbol CYH with an initial offering price of $13 per share.

Revenues for 2000, despite the year's difficulties, were strong at $557.1 million, with net income of $17.9 million.

2000: LifePoint's chief executive is killed in a plane crash.

2001

2001: LifePoint's second chief executive dies of a heart attack.

2002

Additionally, LifePoint submitted the winning bid for a bankrupt hospital in Logan, West Virginia, in November 2002.

The company had been buying select hospitals to bolster its presence in the Southeast, especially in Georgia and Louisiana, then bought three Alabama hospitals in 2002.

2002: The company buys the remaining interest in Dodge City Healthcare Group.

2003

In early 2003 Wall Street was atwitter with rumors of a merger between LifePoint and Province Healthcare.

2004

In 2004, like previous years, the company sought small- to medium-sized hospitals to add to its growing roster.

2004: LifePoint announces its intention to acquire Province and merge operations.

2005

2005: Province Healthcare's holdings are merged into LifePoint.

In 2005, the VHA Board of Directors decided to have the nonprofit do business as (dba) Mat-Su Health Foundation and to start appropriating some of the revenues earned through hospital ownership back into the community in the form of grants to improve the health of Mat-Su residents.

2006

The first grants were given in 2006.

Community, based in Nashville, had revenue of $4.37 billion in 2006, while Triad, based in Plano, Tex., had revenue of $5.54 billion.

2007

July 2007: Community Health Systems, Inc. completes the acquisition of Triad Hospitals, Inc. adding more than 50 hospitals and nearly doubling the size of the organization.

In 2007, Triad Hospitals was purchased by Community Health Systems (CHS), and the unique nonprofit/for profit partnership has continued.

2014

January 2014: Community Health Systems, Inc. completes the acquisition of Health Management Associates, Inc., adding approximately 70 hospitals to the organization.

2016

April 2016: On April 29, 2016, the organization formed a new, independent, publicly traded hospital company by spinning off a group of 38 hospitals and Quorum Health Resources, LLC, a leading hospital management and consulting firm.

2017

In 2017, the foundation expects to award $7 million in grants and scholarships to improve the health of Mat-Su residents.
