Barclay E. Berdan, FACHE, is the chief executive officer of Texas Health Resources, a faith-based, nonprofit health system that cares for more patients in North Texas than any other provider. Berdan became chief executive officer of Texas Health on Sept. 1, 2014, after serving as senior executive vice president and chief operating officer the previous two years. He served as the chief operating officer of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth from 1993 to 1999 and then as its president from 1999 to 2007. He also served as executive vice president for Texas Health from 2005 to 2007, and as senior executive vice president for system alignment and performance from 2007 to 2012. Before joining Texas Health, Berdan worked for American Medical International for nine years in hospital leadership positions in Florida, Arkansas and Texas. He also previously served in administrative positions at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Jackson Park Hospital, both in Chicago. Berdan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and a master's degree in business administration with a specialization in hospital administration from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Active in health care issues, Berdan served as chairman of the Texas Hospital Association for the 2008-09 year. He received the 2013 Earl M. Collier Award for Distinguished Health Care Administration, the association’s highest honor. He was also recognized in 2015 with the D CEO Excellence in Healthcare Award as Outstanding Healthcare Executive and was named to Modern Healthcare’s “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare” list in 2016. He served as chair of the United Way of Tarrant County 2016-2017 campaign. He is past chair and a board member of the American Heart Association Tarrant County chapter, and co-chairs the steering committee of the Fort Worth Blue Zones ProjectTM, the nation’s largest Certified Blue Zones Community®. He is a board member of Premier Inc., and serves on the organization’s finance committee, and is also an Executive Committee member for the Healthcare Leadership Council.
