Sonographer-Breast Services Operates ultrasound equipment to produce basic diagnostic scans of high quality while ensuring optimal patient care. Education • Graduate from an accredited sonography program Experience • For sonographers working in Ultrasound or Mammography, no experience is required; one year of experience in specialty is preferred. Equivalent Education and/or Experience • Education completed in Sonography with current credential from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - Sonography (ARRT(S)) and hospital sonography experience. Ensures the accuracy of all data entered into the patient record such as arrival, begin and end exam information. Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonographer Specialty Job Responsibilities Communicates effectively with the patient to obtain clinical maternal-fetal history/informed consent from the patient or patient's chart to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination, as evidenced by the exam results. Explains the procedure to patients/families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation, as evidenced by customer satisfaction. Assists the physicians in performing CVS, Amniocentesis, and image optimization studies using departmental protocols to provide optimum results. Demonstrates knowledge of proper sterile techniques and isolation precautions as they pertain to the various specialty procedures. Demonstrates the ability to recognize clinical and/or emergent problems in maternal-fetal patients that may interfere with exams and take appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome, as evidenced by exam results and patient satisfaction. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of IV's heparin locks and central line usage as they pertain to Sonography, as evidenced by observations by supervisor and peers. Minimum Requirements Education: High School diploma or equivalent; Degree from Accredited Sonography Training Program Licensure: None required Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) Upon Start; Successful completion of the Inova Nuchal Translucency (NT) Program is required within 6 months for team members without the Nuchal Translucency Certification.; Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Obstetrics & Gynecology Upon Start Experience: Two years of hospital or doctor's office-based experience in the performance of specialized maternal-fetal sonography detecting fetal anomalies. Performs high quality cardiac ultrasound procedures that require ingenuity, initiative and independent judgment on patients. Performs m-mode, two dimensional cardiac ultrasound, Doppler color flow studies, stress echos and AV optimization procedures; assists physician with transesophageal exams. Follows department policies and protocols. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Specializes in performing cardiac ultrasound diagnostic studies. Obtains patient history, explains standard procedures, and addresses patient concerns to foster a sense of comfort and confidence to patients and ensure the needs of individual patients are met. Operates and maintains all assigned ultrasound scanning equipment to ensure it works properly. Positions patients, selects appropriate transducers and machine settings and conducts scanning procedures to correctly capture the images requested by a physician. Completes quality assurance processes and practices. Complies with all Joint Commission, federal, state, and local regulatory laws, standards, and protocols. Qualifications: Required: High School diploma or GED Certified as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) · or- Satisfactory completion of a formal cardiac sonographer training program (1-4 years) must be registry eligible and attain certification within one year. · or- Graduate from a diagnostic ultrasound training program (2-4 years) with 1 full additional year of full-time clinical experience in a dedicated echocardiography laboratory and registry eligible and attain certification within one year. · or- Two years of college with emphasis on the biological sciences with two years experience in a dedicated echocardiography laboratory and registry eligible and attain certification within one year. Salary range: $34 - $38 per hour depending on experience!!!
