Position Overview We are looking for an experienced CNC Mill Machinist to set up and operate CNC milling machines in a fast-paced production environment. This position is responsible for executing precise milling operations, editing programs, setting tooling, and inspecting complex parts with tight tolerances. The ideal candidate is self-sufficient, mechanically inclined, and focused on maintaining consistent quality and productivity. Key Responsibilities • Set up and run CNC mills based on job specifications • Read and interpret blueprints, layouts, and setup documentation to determine part requirements • Select appropriate tooling, set tool offsets, and verify part dimensions using precision measuring instruments • Make minor edits to CNC programs to ensure optimal machining results • Inspect first-run and in-process parts to confirm dimensional accuracy and compliance • Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions as needed • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in accordance with company policies • Assist with developing and refining milling processes and setup sheets for repeat jobs • Communicate with engineers, supervisors, and other team members to meet production goals Qualifications • 5+ years of experience operating and setting up CNC milling machines • Ability to read G-code and make minor program edits • Strong understanding of milling principles, fixtures, and tooling • Ability to read complex engineering drawings and interpret tolerances • Experience in a job shop or high-mix production environment is preferred • Strong inspection skills using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools • Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs and work on your feet for long periods • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional machining coursework is a plus Why Join AST?
