The Head Coach for the Women's Lacrosse team is responsible for the technical, tactical, and personal development of players, including designing practice plans, teaching game strategies, and recruiting new talent. The key responsibilities include fostering a positive team environment, ensuring player safety and eligibility, and managing team logistics. The ideal candidate will have previous experiences coaching an NCAA Women's Lacrosse Program. This position will report to the Director of Athletics. Responsibilities: Support the mission and vision of Trinity Washington University and the Athletics department. Ability to comply with all department rules, regulations and protocols. Teaching and enhancing player's fundamental lacrosse skills. Creating game plans, playbooks, and strategies to maximize team strengths. Organizing and conducting effective practice sessions, drills and scrimmages. Leading the team during games, making in-game adjustments, and reviewing game footage. Provide guidance on personal development, academic progress, and overall well-being. Promoting a positive, inclusive, and respective team environment and encouraging good sportsmanship. Ensuring player safety, enforcing team rules, monitoring academic eligibility and managing injury protocols. Identifying, recruiting, and retaining players for the team. Managing aspects like team travel, equipment and scheduling. Qualifications: Must have demonstrated success in coaching at the collegiate or high school level, and/or as a lacrosse player at the college level. Bachelor's degree and previous recruiting experience is preferred. Thorough understanding of game rules and coaching techniques. Leadership and communication skills. Meetings and Communication * Attend and be on time for all Complex Problems seminar meetings; prepare for seminar appropriately. * Attend weekly team meetings with Senior PLs/ CP Staff. * Attend planning/one-on-one meetings with assigned faculty member. * Utilize AU email account and check email daily for correspondence regarding PL roles. * Communicate regularly, maintaining positive relationships with faculty, Senior PLs, and CP Staff. 2.) Programming and Student Support * Plan, implement, and report on a minimum of three (3) co-curricular learning opportunities for students in collaboration with the faculty. * One of these co-curricular learning opportunities must be completed within the first six weeks of the semester. * Engage each student in the seminar in a 1-1 discussion within six weeks of the semester. * Meet with students in the seminar as needed throughout the semester via office hours or scheduled appointments. 3.) Community Facilitation * Work to develop and facilitate an environment in the class in which students can grow and learn socially as well as academically. * Promote tolerance and consideration in the attitudes and behaviors of students in the seminar. * Engage in and facilitate class discussion when appropriate. * Advise and/or refer students within the scope of the PL's training and ability concerning academic, personal, and social matters. * Apply knowledge of the University's resources, including facilities, services, academic support, and involvement opportunities. * Provide social and academic guidance where appropriate. * Serve as a liaison between students and faculty. * Maintain regular communication about seminar activities and student progress. * Provide input and feedback when appropriate. * Serve as a liaison between students and CP staff. * Share updates about seminar and student progress with Senior PLs and/or CP staff. * Determine plans of action for areas of concern in partnership with CP staff. 4.) Time Commitment * The Complex Problems program understands the PL role to be one part of the PL's multi-faceted life at American University. The PL position requires regularly scheduled responsibilities and unscheduled responsibilities, and times at which PLs are available and accessible to students. A reasonable work schedule would include both types of time, including regularly scheduled responsibilities (CP seminars, staff meetings, etc.), and availability time at varying intervals during the day and night (one-on-one meetings with students, programming, etc.). 5.) At the discretion of command staff, they serve as the Watch Commander in the absence of the Police Sergeant, providing campus-wide supervision to Police Operations personnel and operational command of all emergencies, special events, serious incidents, and non-emergency calls for service. They respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents, writes reports, and conducts investigations. The Police Corporal reviews daily incident reports and notifies appropriate command staff and university personnel of emergency situations. Police Operational Coordination * Coordinates AUPD functions, including patrol, incident response, initial investigations, crime scene response, traffic and parking code enforcement, and event security oversight, at the discretion of command staff. Assumes incident command and coordinates the AUPD police response to emergency/critical incidents. Actively participates on patrol. Review and edit daily incident reports. Notifies the Police Sergeant of any performance or conduct matters. Police Training * Trains new and continuing Police Officers, as assigned by command staff, on law enforcement topics, such as search & seizure, use of force, report writing and incident response. Police Liaison * Maintains partnerships with University and community departments and agencies, such as Campus Life, Housing & Dining, Facilities Management, Metropolitan Police Department, DC Fire Department and Homeland Security.
