From 1993 to 2005, Mr. Schall was the Company’s Chief Financial Officer, responsible for the organization’s financial and administrative matters. He joined The Marcus & Millichap Company in 1986. He was also the Chief Financial Officer of the Company’s predecessor, Essex Property Corporation. From 1982 to 1986, Mr. Schall was the Director of Finance for Churchill International, a technology-oriented venture capital company. From 1979 to 1982, Mr. Schall was employed in the audit department of Ernst & Young (then known as Ernst & Whinney), where he specialized in the real estate and financial services industries. Mr. Schall received a B.S. from the University of San Francisco. Mr. Schall currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Pebblebrook Hotel Trust, Inc. Mr. Schall is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) and is a member of NAREIT, the National Multi Housing Council, the AICPA, and the Board of Governors of NAREIT.

Tim is Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President. Prior to being named CEO effective January 2012, Tim served as President since February 2005, where he was responsible for the performance and coordination of various activities including Development, Redevelopment, Construction, Acquisitions, Dispositions, Asset Management, and Property Operations. Prior to becoming President, Tim served in a variety of capacities with the company, including Chief Operating Officer, Chief Investment Officer and Regional Vice-President of Development and Acquisitions. Tim has been with the company or its predecessors since 1989. Tim is a member of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT), where he serves on the Board of Governors, the Real Estate Round Table, the National Multi-Housing Council (NMHC), where he serves on the Executive Committee, and the Multifamily Product Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI). Tim received his MBA from Harvard Business School and earned his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Virginia, where he graduated with High Distinction and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
