Job Description The Solid Waste Equipment Operator operates, monitors and maintains a variety of equipment, buildings, and systems which support the operation of the landfill. Essential Job Functions: Performs the daily operation of the Solid Waste Facility, including the operation of landfill gas and leachate collection systems, operation of light and heavy equipment. Operates surveying equipment to maintain grades and elevations. Documents and reports inspection, cleaning and maintenance of equipment. Record keeping for all facility operations, including regulatory compliance data, maintenance logs, inspection forms, mileage/hour records, etc. Operational duties including housekeeping, modifications and maintenance of the inactive areas of the landfill. Position Requirements: * High school diploma or equivalent, or any combination of education and experience * 3 to 5 years of recent experience operating a 10,000+ pound capacity forklift or heavy equipment. * Demonstrate accuracy of work, good organization skills as well as the ability to work as a team player. * Effectively communicate, in English, with warehouse personnel, management and supervisors via two-way radio, email and in person. * Ability to read and interpret Shipping Authorizations and Daily Ship Schedules. * Must maintain a Level B Equipment Operator Certification and proficient using all large material handling equipment to transport, bundle and stage material for shipment. * Valid driver's license preferred. Physical Requirements: * Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, snow, etc. * Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and frequently exerting up to 30 pounds of force. * Must be able to climb in to equipment, bend, kneel, sit, reach and grasp. * Must be able to effectively use small hand tools such as pneumatic staple/nail gun, banding equipment, stencil machine, digital camera, and radial arm saw.
