DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The foodserviceworker serves as a contributing member of the dining services team. This position works in close coordination with other dining services staff and under the supervision of supervisors and the executive chef to prepare, present, and serve food. The position supports all aspects of dining operations to include set up, cooking, cleaning, and general assistance to other dining services staff.
As a member of the division or finance and administration, this position may assist with other division and college projects, events, and special assignments. Seasonally, this position may be assigned to the facilities department to assist with light duty assignments and tasks as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Must have knowledge of culinary weights and measures.
Must be able to follow recipes and directions.
Must have experience with handling knives and commercial kitchen equipment.
Must be able to bend and twist at the waist.
Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time-up to 4 hours.
Must have outstanding customer service skills and a desire to help others.
The person in this position will need to work in a wide temperature range.

Currently, BPS has 125 schools with two different foodservice delivery models. The majority of schools have full-service kitchens with a full-time cafeteria manager and subordinate staff. The remaining schools and programs are satellite sites receiving meals from a consolidated production facility. The district serves approximately 17,000 breakfasts, 25,000 lunches, and 2,100 afterschool meals per day. During the summer months, BPS serves roughly 22,000 meals at sites all over the city. BPS has been approved for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP); which enables the district to provide free meals to all Boston students.
Job Responsibilities:
Receive and log all incoming orders and dry goods
Operate an electric pallet jack or forklift to transport product
Breakdown product into separate pallets; tag pallets for storage
Store item in designated cold and dry storage
Select and transport bulk items for packing and distribution
Load trucks for distribution in accordance with Distribution Center plan
Inspect all products to ensure they are meeting guidelines for quality and temperature
Track vendor and purchasing dates
Delivers food and non-food items; as needed
Maintain sanitation of distribution bins and delivery trucks
Consistently maintain product quality and integrity
Ensure adherence to food safety and facility safety
Perform quality control checks to ensure standards are met
Take corrective action, as necessary on timely basis and in accordance with Food &

* Reports to work as scheduled, sign the posted timesheet, and remain on the job until dismissal by the manager.
* Notifies the manager and the main office at the earliest possible time when unable to work.
* Maintains pleasant working relations with fellow employees by showing consideration for others: patience, respect, self-control.
* Follows all policies of the School Committee and instructions of the Kitchen Manager relating to safety measures, sanitation practices, personnel standards, work techniques, and methods of performing duties.
* Performs duties involved in the safe preparation and handling of food, cleaning and sanitizing of equipment and facilities, and serving of food.

* Portions food.
* Cleans kitchen equipment and work area including floor.
* Sets up serving counter.
