Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University provides 24-hour care for pets 365 days of the year. Since 1985, we have offered high quality medical care, consultation, referral and emergency veterinary services for the care of dogs, cats and exotic pets. In addition, the hospital creates a positive learning experience for Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University students and student technicians with regard to small animal ECC medicine and supports the training of specialized ECC technicians.
This position qualifies for a $2,000 sign on bonus following successful completion of 6 months of employment for newly hired employees.
The anticipated schedule for this position will be Thursday, Friday, Saturday 6:30 PM - 7 AM
What You'll Do
The Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Technician II performs complex and diverse clinical duties in veterinary patient nursing care in addition to performing more complex technical procedures. The ECC technician II contributes to the teaching and instruction of veterinary and technician students performing basic technical skill and veterinary nursing care. As part of our highly competitive benefits package, we offer a liberal continuing education allowance and tuition reimbursement program to all technicians employed in Foster Hospital for Small Animals in order to promote personal and professional growth.
The minimum rate of pay for this position is $28.50 per hour based off a 37.5 hour budgeted work week. Compensation above this rate will vary based on education, experience, and credentials. Generous shift differentials are offered for any scheduled hours worked outside of normal business hours, which are Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm.
The Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Technician is considered an essential employee within the hospital and the schedule may include providing University and calendar holiday coverage on a rotating basis. A substantial holiday premium pay is applied to any University designated holiday. The University observes a minimum of thirteen holidays throughout the calendar year.
Essential functions as a Vet Tech II in the ECC will be:
Patient Care - Provide high quality patient care including the following:
* Monitor, manage and implement treatment plans as ordered by clinicians to insure prompt delivery of high-quality patient care.
* Assist clinicians with procedures.
* Collaborate with administrative and clinical care team members throughout the hospital to coordinate and prioritize patient care.
* Complete diagnostic testing as ordered by clinicians including bench-top lab tests.
Teaching - Teaching responsibilities include:
* Instruct veterinary students and student technicians in all technical aspects of patient care.
* Assist in training, orienting, and mentoring new Veterinary Technicians in all aspects of the department.
Research - Provide technical assistance in academic and clinical research including treating research/laboratory animals
* Maintenance - Clinical maintenance includes:
* Maintain adequate inventory of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals.
* Clean and maintain clinical areas including nurses' stations, wards, intensive care unit, and emergency room.
Miscellaneous - Other duties as assigned by supervisor and assistant supervisor including:

The 11 veterinarians in the section make approximately 4,600 farm calls per year, and tend to over 30,000 cows, 2,500 horses, 850 sheep, 800 goats, and 800 llamas or alpacas.

Under limited supervision, provides skilled administrative and technical support for the bovine, equine and small ruminant busy multi-species and multi-disciplinary ambulatory practice of 11 veterinarians. Be a crucial team member to support other technicians and veterinarians in the office and on-farm as required to provide quality veterinary care to a demanding clientele and provide an optimum learning experience for professional veterinary students enrolled in a demanding curriculum.

The Veterinary Technician, Mid-shift ICU is the primary caretaker for all Intensive Care Unit patients in the Companion Animal Clinic. The skilled technician requires a high degree of independent judgment when delivering critical care to ICU patients. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Admit patients to the Intensive Care Unit for hospitalization utilizing electronic records and treatment sheets
Monitor physical conditions, wounds, and medical diseases of hospitalized patients including pain assessments, ensuring patients remain in stable condition
Provide basic life support and advanced life support to critical care patients
Assist with emergency medical care for critical patients under supervision of the attending veterinarian

Since 1985 we have offered high quality medical care, consultation, referral, and emergency veterinary services for the care of dogs, cats and exotic pets. The Foster Hospital for Small Animals is home to one of less than 30 veterinary dialysis facilities in the United States. The Dialysis Center service has expanded over the years to an extracorporeal therapy service providing not only hemodialysis treatments but also therapeutic plasma exchange for immune mediated disease as well as hemoperfusion treatments for emergent toxicity cases. For small patients requiring treatment, Cummings School is the first veterinary school in the country to have a Carpediem enabling treatment of patients weighing 2-10kgs. The Dialysis service is currently supported by two full-time VTS (ECC) technicians, one of which is also a VTS (SAIM) and is seeking another experienced and talented technician to join their team.
This position qualifies for a $2,000 sign on bonus following successful completion of 6 months of employment for newly hired employees.
What You'll Do
Under the direction of the Internal Medicine veterinarians, the Hemodialysis technician works as a part of a team performing extracorporeal therapy services as well as providing intensive care to the services' inpatients. The Hemodialysis technician will perform and assist in all areas of patient care in this section including but not limited to; placing central IV catheters, sedating patients, placing dialysis catheters, feeding tubes, initiating treatments, monitoring and performing serial patient assessment and bloodwork.
