Tulsa Airport company history timeline

1928

In 1928 Skelly along with Waite Phillips, Harry Rogers, Omar K Benedict and Cyrus S Avery, organized the Tulsa Airport Corporation.

On this day in 1928, Tulsa's municipal airport was dedicated and 186 pounds of letters, the city's first out-going air mail, were loaded onto a plane headed for Ponca City and then Chicago.

In 1928 Tulsa built a modern municipal airport, and a year later, thanks to a booming oil economy, it was claimed to be the busiest in the world.

1930

By 1930, the regions first radio beacon and revolving light on a 50 foot tower visible for 55 miles had been erected at the airport.
